Of course not, everything is happy for us now. The only bitterness now is that we live so far away. Yet even that bitterness is no more bitter than the bitterness one might taste from eating a cherry a few weeks too early- one knows that soon that short term bitterness will turn sweet and juicy.

We are going wine tasting in Napa on Wednesday. I am picking her up at her house on Bush street on Wednesday morning. Although I won't be convinced we are actually going until she actually answers her door on Wednesday morning.

Even if I had not arranged this rendevous the comments generated on this board were mostly inspired by jealousy, stupidity, pathetic attempts at humor, or all of the above. I can already predict that most of the comments on this board as to the Serbian's agreement to the Napa trip will allege that her motivation in going was spawned either by insecurity or a low self image.

The cost benefit of posting about this is just not there. Out of all the banter I did not receive one insightful comment. If you want to know more send a PM.

Word! Rock on dude. While I offered no insightful comment, that is more of a product of the fact that I have been out of the game too long to have any relevant insight than it was my lack of sincerely optimistic confidence in your ability to pull this one off.

The naysayers and haters will, as you noted, come up with some psychologically soothing rationale, but that won't change the fact that you have won a moral victory and are poised for greater gains.

Bravo!!! No shite, Bravo!!!

Very interesting article in te LA Times yesterday on the impact of media reports on large jury awards.

Coverage of Big Awards for Plaintiffs Helps Distort View of Legal System

Quote:

While acknowledging that excesses no doubt occur, many legal observers say there is no evidence that people are filing more lawsuits or that juries are getting more generous — indeed, there is some data to the contrary. And mammoth verdicts, in the rare cases in which they occur, almost always are tossed out or sharply reduced later.

Feeding the perception of a crisis in the legal system, they say, is the way the news media cover the courts.

After the big headlines, critics say, the media often drop the ball, losing interest in what happens later. Published studies of news content and a Times examination of major recent cases show that when the immense verdicts were overturned or dramatically reduced, the news frequently was banished to the inside pages or simply not reported.

Legal experts and media observers say such coverage gives a distorted picture of the civil justice system while lending credence to fears of irrational jury awards. News coverage has reinforced the message "that the system's out of control, and that juries are using the tort system to redistribute wealth in some unjust and unprincipled way," said Robert MacCoun, a professor of law and public policy at UC Berkeley.

The popular view that there are more lawsuits and bigger damage awards than ever before is not supported by available evidence.

A 35-state survey by the National Center for State Courts found that the number of tort filings declined 4% from 1993 through 2002 despite population growth. And in the nation's 75 largest counties, the median award to victorious plaintiffs was $37,000 in 2001 — much less than the inflation-adjusted median of $63,000 in 1992, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, a branch of the U.S. Department of Justice.

If such context is absent from news reports, it's not because of media bias but "the holler of the dollar," said William Haltom, a professor of politics and government at the University of Puget Sound and co-author of "Distorting the Law: Politics, Media and the Litigation Crisis."

When you are doing your C/B analysis, is it just the costs and benefits to you that you take into account? While I can concede the costs to you may be relatively high, the entertainment value to me (and I'm sure many others) surely outweighs the costs. So, overall, society gains from these transactions.

Is "house on Bush street" code for something?

SPanky,

I hate to point out the obvious, but why would a non drinker want to spend the day winetasting? You know I have supported you all along, except for the Patrick Bateman post, so I do pose this as a serious question. Unless she isnt actually a non drinker.

Just out of curiousity, did she call you back or did you have to kep calling?

Are yoiu a non-drinker? I dunno, that sounds like a weird first date for a non drinker. Thats like something you would do if you were deep in a relationship and watned to support your man's indulgences.

The night I met her she was not drinking so I assumed she was a non-drinker. But she likes wine. So she says. I had to keep calling her. This whole thing is very strange.

I have no idea what is going on here. I wouldn't be surprized if no one was at her house on Wednesday. Or the day in Napa could be a total disaster. She could even car jack me. At this point nothing would surprize me.

See, you say this the day after lambasting us for being not helpful.

I got to tell you (as someone who's caught a lto of shit here lately as well, probably for good reason), most of the stuff I saw posted in response to your Serbian questions was actually genuine (riffing on the fact she works in a strip club aside). People genuinely felt (incorrectly, it turns out - or perhaps not, based on the above) that you were wasting your time. You asked our collective opinion, we gave it, we were wrong. But we were (for the most part) sincere. Good to see you keeping us updated.

Well, the good news is that if she goes, she doesnt think yoiu are a creepy stalker. Bc if she did, she would not be getting in your car and driving a couple of hours away. Also, shew ould not give you her home address, assuming, that indeed is her home- (she lives in a house on Bush street? i thought the immigrant stripper workers were out in the outer sunset or in tiny holes in north beach, but what do I know?

Maybe she is just a weird chick? Maybe its some skittish internatinoal thing, but I thought the EE chicks were bold. Again, what do I know? BUt I have to ask, are you losing interest at all? Why would you want to keep pursuing someone who gives you such mixed signals? Should be a nice, fun, long car ride. Props to you for the effort though and teh day trip first date. I sincerely hope it goes well.

btw, there was something on Howard Stern about BaBaBoooey's wedding. APparenlty the new wife is a beauty and the crew thought that it was very Lord of the Rings.
