Shoot, man, that's an excessive wrongful death award in my neck of the woods!

Apropos of nothing, were I someone who litigated against her firm, in every case I had where the defendant argued about damages, I would staple that complaint to my response.
If you spent that kind of cash on her NotBobette's flowers you'd be so fucking drunk at the reception you wouldn't know what color they were.

Another friend went through two miscarriages and fertility treatment before she got pregnant with her oldest son. She had absolutely no problem getting pregnant with her youngest. She'd had at least one abortion in her youth and was on birth control prior to deciding to have a family.

Also anecdotally, I have a lot of friends in their 30s who got pregnant almost instantly after getting off birth control. My understanding is that you're pretty damned fertile once you get off the pill.

Also, read "Baby Proof" by Emily Giffin--what a great book, someone who decided not to have kids, her sister has fertility issues, the author went to law school not sure if she practices.

My sister's best friend got married last spring, and of course she was Bridezilla type. My sister got stuck with being the maid of honor. My sister decided that she'd let her friend do whatever the hell she wanted so long as the bride halfed the flowers and doubled the booze of whatever the wedding planner suggested.

Was a good party.

I found her prose stilted and the narrative jumped all over the place.

Cell phone spam calls

I am going to file one of those forms at the do not call website, because such calls are totally verboten, but I know it won't really do any good. I'm just curious whether anyone else has dealt with this type of nuisance, because this is the first time in 7 years that I have ever gotten a spam call on my cell.
My former neighbor told me recently that he'd been getting telephone calls to refinance his house, notwithstanding his appearance on and fervid support of the Do Not Call registry, and that somehow he had figured out that these calls were coming from India, where, he imagined, they were revelling in being beyond the long arm of the federal regulators by eating particularly tasty chaat and watching Bollywood musicals. * The guy is a bit of a crackpot and I haven't been getting these calls myself.

* N.B. -- I embellished his account somewhat for the commonweal.

Is she starring in a new show on HBO?

All you need is the liquor. And it helps to buy a few hundred bucks worth of Red Bull if the bar doesn't stock the stuff.

Excellent point. On the plus side, you can be sure that there will be Black Bush at the open bar (since I'm apparently a hedge fund manager in real life).

She's actually a friend of mine (or used to be). We worked at the same firm and had a grand old time when I was a summer. She was cool as hell (probably still is) and not too unlike yourself in that she hated her job as a lawyer and left to do something she actually liked doing. That said, I haven't read word one of any of her books. I went to her first book reading and that was enough for me.

Ally Wenig is cool as hell too (she's on the left). Damn, I miss being a summer.

If she spent $1,000 in flowers and they didn't come in right, that's fine, get a refund and go home.

But she spent $27,000, a premium price, because she was expecting premium services and top quality product. For rust flowers, the whole wedding - linens, china, food choice, band and groom - was wrong, and they all needed to be replaced last minute.

Where are the pictures of said crappy flowers? Did she not spring for a photographer?

A lawyer's past action bind the future client? wow! that is tort reform with some teeth right there in Podunk.

I think the multiplier has to do with the ruined day. Consequential damages as it were. It's why "wedding photographer" is about equal to "divorce attorney" in the amount of potential negative feedback you can expect. (which keeps photoshop work up, and Hank in better scotch).

I didn't. I thought it was a great book. And it captured a snapshot of everything.

from Westchester, to Long Island to Manhattan. the I banks and the publishing houses.

It was painful to read--not in the way you described it but that she captured emotion so well.

I actually just put her first two books on reserve at the NYPL.

Not to ruin your embellished story, but I'm pretty sure a company doing any business in the U.S. can't circumvent the do not call list by outsourcing its telemarketing to India.
