I go au naturel almost all the time, except for maybe my summer lip gloss habit. FB?
I use a moisturizer, foundation, finishing powder, concealer, blush, eyeliner, mascara, lipliner, lipstick, eyebrow color, and 2 or 3 hair styling aides daily (not necessarily in that order). In the summer (while not at work), I use a bronzer sometimes and some shimmer powder on my shoulders and decolletage.

The shimmer powder has mica in it, which is in all cosmetics products that aren't totally matte.

Well, if you're looking to increase your product use, I hear Dolce & Gabbana or someone is putting out kohl eyeliner, lip "it's a colored balm, not a lipstick" and other cosmetics for men.

On a similar note, a woman who lives in my tiny town and is on town council used to be the manager for the Ramones.

I understand doctors' oreders re: skin cancer. You get that, and you can die, and its a rather pointless death, because the cause was not some very fulfilling vice which made the time you had better.

But these docs with their drinking and smoking and drugging warnings can go to hell. Ever read a doc's warnings on booze? I'd be dead already if they were true, and I'm not alone. I'm also not cirrhotic. I'd sue the fucks for falsely warning people for no good reason if I could. Same goes with moderate smoking. My doc friends readily admit "Yeh, a few a day probably won't do much and binging on a weekend isn't likely to kill you." But the goddamn AMA says any cigarette is too much, because they think we're all too stupid to moderate our consumption. I've smoked for years, but only sparingly, here and there. Never been addicted. My blood pressure is exceptional. As to dope, its all lies. Every stitch of it. Here's what the docs really oughta say "Smoking dope is fine, since you'll never smoke nearly enough to do real damage, because a few bong hits get the normal man 'where he needs to be'." As to coke, "Well, you shouldn't 'Lowell George' piles of the stuff, but chances are, if you're young and careful and healthy, a few rails at a party now and again aren't likey to do anything more than keep you up way longer than you'd like or cause you to say some really stupid shit." As to hallucinogens, "Take them with friends and be outside if possible. Enjoy the ride. No negative side effects whatsoever."

The AMA's rejection of Bush's Abstinence-Only policy toward curbing sexual disease and teen pregnancy is hypocritical horseshit when you consider that it engages in the same disinformation game as to everything I've cited above.

I guess its because the average American really isn't smart enough to moderate his own appetites...

Whew, was that a rant...

Wrinkle stuff

I was going to plug this the last time someone asked about moisturizers that wouldn't get in your eyes, but didn't get around to it. I love the Kiehl's Ultra Moisturizing Eye Stick SPF 30, which doesn't get in my eyes and seems to have arrested the development of fine lines in the area. It's spendy, but worth it.
http://kiehls.com/images/product/Thu...325_68x151.jpg

I also like their Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, but don't use it every night (it doesn't have SPF) like I probably should.

For the rest of my face, I use Eucerin Extra Protective SPF 30. It's really light and non-irritating. Good stuff.

You really should come to the PB. There, we learned the harsh lesson that the plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence." Subsequently, we learned that the axiom remains true for the singular.

Alternate theory: Your "doc friends" don't want you to stop smoking or drinking BECAUSE THEY ARE TIRED OF LISTENING TO YOU. Cheers!

Sebby, that is because you don't understand that you have to have both heavy alcohol consumption and a genetic predisposition (or some other disease like Hep C) to get cirrhosis. The problem is that they don't know the gene that is responsible for this so there is no test for it. They just know that there is a hereditary predisposition. So that is why they warn you - because a certain percentage of heavy drinkers will get cirrhosis and you cannot tell ahead of time who is in that percentage and who isn't. The exception to that is if you have a family history of cirrhosis. Then if you are a heavy drinker, you should definitely consider stopping. Same is true if you are Hep C positive or have some other disorder that is known to predispose you to cirrhosis.

OTOH, if you have a bunch of ancestors who are heavy drinkers and none of them has ever gotten cirrhosis, you are in all likelihood not going to get it. Alcoholic encephalopathy you may get, though. That takes quite a bit of drinking for a long time.

Genetics plays a role with this, too. While many people become addicted to nicotine quickly, others never become addicted. The problem is that you cannot tell who is in which group (yet) and for those in the addictive group, it doesn't take many cigarettes for them to become addicted. Once addicted for those people, quitting is very hard.

It isn't about moderation. You just weren't born with the genes that predispose to nicotine addiction.

You probably don't need moisturizer, so go to the sunscreen aisle and pick up an oil free neutrogena or coppertone product made specifically for the face. Don't get any waterproof or sports versions because they are like glue. If you are fair-skinned you really ought to get a 30. This would be better than a moisturizer with sunscreen because the product has slightly better coverage.

Just experiment with inexpensive products until you find one you like that won' t make you break out. There's no need to go spendy, especially considering that you should use generous amounts of sunscreen. Most people use too little.

The Oil of Olay Complete lotion is a good product. It doesn't break me out and I have slightly oily skin.

Neutrogena Dry Touch. It's lightweight and doesn't have a strong scent. Alternately, you could blow a zillion dollars at Clinique, but I don't recommend that unless you're going to pick me up the free gift with purchase.

You might think this is too girly, but there's a skin-care line called "MD Skin Care" (in NY, they sell it at Bergdorf's -- I don't know where else) that has a moisturizer and skin cream in one. It's very good (I think it's 30 spf) it is also light and unscented.

My skin is oily in the "T-Zone" and it has not caused me any breakouts. I've been using it for over a year.

For those of you with tvs, the Spelling Bee championship is going to start up again tomorrow. We ended today on Round 4, and there are 70 spellers left.

I was checking out the previous rounds, and some of the mistakes are inexcusable (eg 14 year old missing shazam, I hope he at least went out with a flourish) and some of the words didn't look like they were real words. Also, there are a lot of repeat kids from last year. I'm glad to see that little Samir Patel is back. He's the Texas kid that missed boudin last year, and lost in the second to last round. He's the only Texan left, so obviously, I've got to root for him.

If it costs alot, don't bother. Check the ingredients and then find yourself a drug store brand with the same or very similar ingredients in a similar order. The ingredients in these products are fairly cheap and the cheaper brands have the same ingredients as the more expensive brands.

Read the label and save yourself some money.
