I've had that at a korean place. it was steamed and quite gross, but i choked it down since the waitress had tried to talk my American ass out of ordering it, and I didn't want to reinforce her sterotyping.

pull rank. what year associate is he?

once at Biglaw I get a phone call from some corporate guy:

"Hank I need you to drop everything and jump into this very important business matter where we need someone to look at patents and it needs to happen today."

"It isn't going to happen today because partner X has me on his rush stuff."

"Hank, what year associate are you? I'm 4th year!"

Like his being closer to the slaughterhouse made me afraid of him?

But anyway, say you're vegan and paint it as insensitive to drag you there- it's California for fuck sakes.

I believe I spent a delightful night at the Best Western in Pismo Beach about exactly a year ago. The shore is pretty steep right there, but the hotel is right above the water.

You may be looking for something classier than a Best Western, but it usually works for me.

eta: There are two Best Westerns in Pismo Beach, and I may have been at the other one, the Shelter Cove Lodge.

Not so much you directly, gwinc, since it sounds like you have a handle on it...but the other cry at my desk folks....there is so much stress and dealing with everyone's unique life situation you just have to fucking deal with it and move forward. If you dwell you make yourself nuts.

The brie was melted and drizzled with honey and served with apple slices.

I also ate a grilled (rare) ribeye, drank a glass of champagne and a glass of a cab/syrah from Chile, and had carrot cake for dessert.

So you're sitting at your desk after a big lunch and you feel the need to fart. Do you: (a) go down the long hall to the restroom stall pull your pants down and/or lift your skirt only to fart, i.e., waste of time; (b) eaze one out with the door open hoping that no one will come visit you prior to the smell abating (kind of like having sex in public, i.e., the thrill factor); (c) get up, close the door, sit back down, and eaze one out hoping that no one will come visit you prior to the smell abating; (d) let it rip and not give a damn; or (e) other? Discuss.

Oh. My. God. (sureptiously wiping drool from my chin)

All of that sounds really good right now, except the ribeye, since I don't eat anything that walked on 4 legs. I have had a Balance Bar and a handful of goldfish crackers today. It's been that kind of day. I'll probably get some leftover pizza this evening, if the babysitter is kind to me. It's going to be that kind of night too.

Well, if you're going to be within walking distance of Solvang, then you simply must go to Solvang. It's a lot like Leavenworth (Washington, not the prison), in that it's a little Scandinavian town with lots of Scandinavian pastries and stuff.

And if you you're going to be there, there's the Hitching Post in Buellton, which is not far from Solvang. The Hitching Post was in the movie Sideways. The atmosphere is not much and you get an actual relish tray before dinner (carrots, celery, olives, salami and crackers). The bread pudding (and I hate bread pudding) is amazing. It has this Jack Daniels sauce they put on top that is to die for. The ribs kicked ass and so did the other dinner that I can't remember what it was now. Their Hitching Post pinot noir is really very very good.

I don't remember any mustiness to the rooms, but I didn't spend a ton of time in them.

I have no idea what TPLD is either.
