Actually, I was in a bar and was chatting to them. My friends (guys) spotted some Mariners and wanted me to go talk to them. So I did. While I was talking I (as happens when I drink) I asked them if they wouldn't happen to have a cigarette (of course they wouldn't DUH, but that didn't occur to me).
