I don't want to get off on a rant about the appropriateness of sending graduation invitations halfway across the country to unrelated people you know cannot make it to the party and haven't seen you or your kid in over 10 years, so I won't. But I will say that they should save the printing and postage and just send a simple postcard saying "send some fucking money." Oh yeah, and just because you know my parents doesn't mean that I give a shit about your child's graduation or marriage or sex change or parole or whatever "special" event you want me to contribute to.
What is with that?!? My SIL's step-son (how's that for a stretch?) sent out a graduation announcement. I have met this guy twice and he never said 2 words to me - and yet we get the not-so-subtle request for money/present.

I'm too obtuse for these things. I'd either make a congratulatory phone call or a short note.

Money and presents for graduating high school? Write me when you get an advanced degree. College should be expected, not rewarded.

This "cornhole" thread and the "bloody arm" story from earlier should be officially inducted into the "Throw Up in My Own Mouth Hall of Fame."

I think Burger will appreciate this the most:

Nelson Muntz: "This cream corn tastes like cream crap."

Literally.

Blackberry

New topic, since all this corn talk is turning me on...

Does anyone have one of these Blackberry things? I know some people who swear by them, and, since I do everything by e-mail, it would be really nice to always have it with me. And my firm will pay for it. Can others tell whether you are sending messages from it instead of your regular computer?

Of course, I could ask this question on the GB[1], but it seems like you guys are the people who know the people behind the people.

I thought everything tasted like chicken. If so, would this be the Kernel's Original Recipe or Extra Crispy?

I have one and it is great for keeping you out of the office if all you were waiting on was a damn e-mail. People who have a blackberry (i.e. people in your firm) can tell if you are sending a message from one, but the first thing every blackberry owner must do is turn off the "sent from my wireless blackberry handheld" trailer. Once that is done it will vary whether or not clients can tell (blackberry messages come through as courier-type text instead of pretty outlook-style)*. Anyway, I like it a lot.

I have one, and I like it fine. Great for checking news, sports scores... Has some nice travel features such as restaurant reviews, etc., and is also great for flight status notifications. Our travel agency is set up so I can review my entire itinerary on it.

You can set it so it does not show the tagline that the message came from your Blackberry. One of the first questions I asked our IT people when getting it set up...

Love mine. But I didn't advertise to the partners that I have one -- it's one thing for me to be able to check my e-mail when I feel like it and occassionally impress the bastards by responding to an e-mail at 11:00 pm (while I'm at home in my pjs drooling over John Stewart). It's another thing for them to expect me to do that.

and if you do get one, don't carry it around on your belt. I hope that goes without saying. And don't check it while you're at lunch with other people or when you're hanging out with your friends/family. I would hope that would go without saying too. You'd be surprised how many (usually male) lawyers have told me that their SOs had to institute a "no Blackberry at the dinner table" policy. One guy I know spends a half hour in his garage every night when he gets home from work answering the e-mails he received on his commute b/c his wife won't let the blackberry in the house.
