Anyone else watch the Biography marathon last night on Charles Manson, the Manson Family and Sharon Tate? I watched all three because I'm a sucker that way. The thing I learned that I probably should already know was that the woman who had an assassination attempt on Gerald Ford (if you want to call it that despite the fact that her gun wasn't loaded) was a Mansonite who felt guilty for being on the outside while all her family members were incarcerated. She is also the only female family member in prison who has not determined that Manson is a self-consumed nutcase (and not in a good way).

I guess Tex hasn't given the prison interviews the way the rest of them have. The shows were oddly silent about his story after the Tate murders. Just said that he was not tried at the same time as the others because he was fighting extradition from Texas. Seems like he was a pretty bad guy too. Manson's right-hand man.

That "feel" is called Single Camera. That's the only thing they have in common, since Oliver Beane is simply Not Funny.

In Three Camera, you produce the show in a studio with a proscenium stage, shooting it like a play. It's an ultracheap production method pioneered by Lucy and Desi that reigned supreme until the late '90s, even after the demise of the Live Studio Audience. Seinfeld was basically Three Camera, with a couple of exterior shots that always felt weird as a result. Friends is the same. Almost every sitcom you can think of is Three Camera.

In Single Camera, you use one camera, shoot to film, and cut it together like a movie. Malcolm in the Middle is an example. So's Curb. Single Camera is a lot more expensive and produces a more durable, film-like product.

Poll (to annoy Bilmore): Who is the best talk show guest you've ever seen? Who is the worst?

Best: David Duchovny. Tells great stories; naturally funny. Too bad his career is over.

Worst: Amy Sedaris. I love her to pieces and adore everything she's been in (even those Just Shoot Me episodes), but she's really terrible as a talk show guest.

Best: Kim Basinger. I thought her genuine shyness in front of a live audience was incredibly cute. And it was even better with the sound off.

Worst: Andie McDowell. Saw her on Letterman. Dumb as a rock. Didn't understand a single joke Letterman made, or even understand that they were jokes.

I can't decide on a best, but the worst, by far was Farrah Fawcett on Letterman when she was so high that she thought the cityscape behind her was a window. However, it was so funny that could also be considered a best.

Best: Will Ferrell - Explanation not needed. And Charles Grodin on Letterman or Carson. He basically acts like he despises Letterman every time he's on and never breaks that character. It's pretty funny.


Worst: SJP - I hope, for her sake, that she's drunk or stoned whenever she's on Letterman. If not, she's an idiot.

I have no opinion about good/bad talk-show guests, as I rarely watch talk shows -- what with all the kayaking, etc.

However, I do have a question. Why do you say DD's career is over? I dig him.
