The one transgender woman I have known as more than a passing acquantence has extensive materials online related to transgendered issues.

I seem to recall reading something from her website a few years ago confirming this observed trend: a higher percentage of transgendered individuals are gay as well (from the perspective of the target gender). I couldn't find the info on her site which she has redesigned since the last time I visited, but it may still be there. I know a few years back Ms. Stone was advocating very forcefully her right to participate in issues of lesbian and feminist studies, and addressing the resistence she often encountered from women who viewed her as an outsider and interloper.

I just read this three times and it still makes no sense to me. Break it down. In the first para, it looks like you are saying that once the M --> F, then they are gay and are in FF relationships? Then in the second para, you say that transgendered women (ie the F in a M-->F scenario) are straight. THis is completely contradictory. So which is it?

I ask bc I recently found out someone I knew as a man is now a woman and apparently still lives with his/her wife. Not clear whether they fuck or if its for the kids or what.

Apparently the number of cats one has is not always an accurate test for wackadooness -- or at least having fewer than 3 does not guarantee a non-wackadoo.

edited to note that I do not find sex change/transgender/etc wackadoo -- Sandy Stone, however, is simply wackadoo without the identity issue (read her cv, etc and you shall see).

Very confusing. I'm really befuddled by the partners of the transgendered folks. The transgendered folks start off as attracted to a certain sex and maintain that attraction throughout the process. I'm more confused by the 'other' in the relationship, who was initially attracted to a boy but is now (post-op/hormones/etc) attracted to a girl. Or vice versa. I guess it all depends on how open the transgendered person was in the relationship.

Yeah, it would be pretty weird for that person. Seems like that are a fair number of (presumably hetero) women who stay in relationships with men who become women. I would guess that women might be more willing than men to say - well I loved this person as a man, I still love em as a woman. I'm not sure men would be able to switch sides as quickly. Maybe the relationships have turned more platonic by that point anyway? As has been known to be the case in more than one marriage...

I think women take to the concept of free agency more readily then men do... Same problem with the NFL and the increasing female viewers.

Not sure I grasp this question but Jean (the female Jean) has a boyfriend. So she would have been gay pre-op and will be straight post-op. This is confusing.

A friend of mine went to kindergarten and first grade with him in NYC (until Lenny moved to LA). My friend (let's call him John for the purposes of this story) saw him at a concert or something (Lenny was attending, not performing), surrounded by bodyguards, and John went up to him and said, "Hey -- we went to kindergarten together!" Lenny whipped around, and looked at him accusingly and said, "WHERE?" John was taken aback, but then answered (correctly, obviously), at which point Lenny said, "Hey -- cool! [&c]" and they had a brief conversation, at the end of which John realized he'd never even told Lenny his name -- although they spoke of some third kindergarten friend at length.

John was so upset that he forgot to tell Lenny his name. I'm sure they would be really tight now were it not for that unfortunate mental lapse.

When I was a kid, if a driver passed a cop waiting in an obvious speed trap or about to get back in his car after pulling someone over, the driver would warn oncoming traffic of the potential ticket by flashing his lights.

Is that regional or did was it pretty widespread? Does anyone do this anymore? Whenever I see someone flash their lights, I immediately hop into the right lane (if I wasn't already there) and slow back down to the speed limit. And whenever I see a potential speed trap, I try to warn the oncoming traffic. Lately, though, the speed trap never materializes, and I'm beginning to think that I'm doing a rain dance when everyone else just checks doppler radar.

I've seen it in a number of parts of the country, so I assume it's a universal signal.

Of course, around here I generally don't bother because there are so many assinine drivers I'd like to see some of them get pulled over. But, in the sticks, sure I'd do it.
