have Skiles suit up. The 2nd best point guard from MSU, and the leading scorer in the worst "my team was cheated" moment of my life. Fucking Kansas timekeeper.

Just wait. Pretty soon, I predict you will see starter by committee, sort of like in LL. Pitcher 1 goes through the batting order once, pitcher 2 goes through the second time, then you have 3 or 4 guys each going an inning. Hitters never have a chance to adjust and the pitchers never get tired.

As far as getting runs for a particular pitcher, if that guy is the third or fourth in the rotation on a team that is very deep in pitching, he is usually going against someone who is also third or fourth in the rotation on the other team. So let's say for example the Mets, go Pedro, Glavine, Duque, Traschel. Traschel, now the 4th starter when matched up against the Brewers -- a team far less deep than the Mets -- goes against some guy who probably is a AA pitcher. The Mets pound the shit out of him and Traschel gets 55 runs a game run support.
I can't wait for the day of the 14-man pitching staff. Really, with the right guys, you could get by with 11 position players. A backup catcher and a good utility guy -- that's all you'd need. Probably tougher to do in the NL though -- unless you've got some good hitting pitchers.

While I was punching a bag this morning at boot camp, I saw footage of an unfortunate model at Fashion Week who tripped and fell on the runway. I suspect that she is now out.

Damn, dude, you just picked on my favorite player of all time.

He's not a dick...at least to the fans. He was a dick to the media, and said a few things publicly that he should have kept private. The media destroyed him b/c he treated reporters like shit. His current (bad) reputation has been completely exaggerated (especially by Jay Mariotti, who is hated in Chicago). But he's always been very gracious and friendly with fans. I've actually met him in a bar. Unbelievably friendly.

Also, he is the greatest right-handed hitter I've ever seen (Ozzie recently said the same thing). I was 15 when he came into the league. At 8, you start to really like baseball. At 12, you know how to hit, throw and run. But by 15, you get it. And Frank's first years with the Sox corresponded to 15-17 for me. He was just...awesome. He's the greatest hitter in Sox history (by far), and, according to Bill James, a lock for the HOF.

In his 1995 Players Ratings Book, this is what Bill James wrote about him: "Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Frank Thomas...maybe the three best hitters God ever made. Gets on base half the time, has tremendous power, hits .350...what more could you want? He works hard, stays healthy, never slumps. Only weakness are his glove and speed. When the White Sox picked him seventh overall in the 1989 draft, they were widely ridiculed by the scouting community."

Thomas has authored a career batting line of .305 AVG/.425 OBP/.565 SLG. That OBP is good for 13th on the all-time list, and Thomas' .565 SLG ranks 15th all-time (minimum 3,000 plate appearances on both counts).

Soon, he'll be only the seventh player to retire with at least 500 homers and a career batting average of at least .300. The others on that exclusive list are Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Jimmie Foxx, Ted Williams and Mel Ott.

I was always taught to craft my words to the particular audience, and I happen to know this audience pretty well. Platonically, of course. If they were more hygenic, who's to say, but for now, platonic.

once on amtrak, DC to NYC, I'm listening to these 3 suits (in the 2 benches facing seats) talking about baseball. They were waaaayyyy too involved in stuff. "did you hear cleveland is doing this promotion," shit like that. By the time we were in Philly I had decided there were stunted adolescent creepy scary guys- then when we got off i was it was Peter Uerberoth and his toadies. Oh.

The Yankees damn well better make the playoffs. That is the absolute bare bones minimum. And I'm reasonable. So many people here think the season is a complete failure if we don't win The Series.

TM
the Yankees will won nothing (or at least not the one thing that really counts).

The "Carpetbagger Curse" aka "the Curse of Hillary" remains in full force and effect.

To refresh your recollection, since Hillary, another full figured person-like the Bambino, and a carpet bagger from Illinois via Arkansas, won a NY Senate seat, the Yank-offs have not won a World Series. Yo go girl!
