So we were scanning the commericals last night, but I caught a glimpse of these guys and had to stop and back up to see it.
I think I had an acid flashback - it's too bizarre for primetime.

P.S. I don't hate Russell for his play or post-playing career. I know him personally. Went to school with his daughter. His son was, I think, convicted of residential burglary and murder. The whole family is whack.

So, yez. I guess it is all about his announcing. I've never heard such horseshit spewn all over the microphone (and therefore in my ears) from anyone (Larry Merchant comes close). The guy should know the ins and outs of basketball as well as anyone else. The fact is, he adds NOTHING to a game. In fact, he takes away from it. He tries to take controversial stands on the most insignificant things. And he's almost always flat out wrong.

Any other announcer: "But he has 36 points and 14 boards against San Antonio and they've been throwing Duncan and Robinson at him all night."

Walton: "That may be. But it's a soft 36. I just don't think he has what it takes. I would have scored 36 while making an impact on the game. Blah, blah, blah."

The guy is a cancer to basketball. I'd rather listen to Magic Johnson and Eric Dickerson do every game, together, for the rest of my life than listen to one Walton game commentary.

You know, for a man who actually played the game, he appears to know nothing about it. On the rare occasions where I have the volume up and he is calling, I've asked myself - "that the hell game is he watching?"
Mychel Thompson is similar in style, except Mychal always starts a sentence with "well when *I* played I would do blah blah blah, and I would have done blah blah blah."

Barry has long been a jackass, and the stories about him are legion, but he seems to have mellowed in the last year or two.

Speaking of whack families, or at least fucked up ones, cnn had a story up briefly yesterday about the trial of the wacko who kidnapped a little boy in the 70s and kept him/sexually abused him for 7 years (the basis of some made-for-tv movie called something like "I Know My Name Is Steven"), who was set free after a ridiculously short prison sentence in that case and is now on trial for trying to buy a child from an acquaintance (she refused).

Anyway, turns out the family of the 70s kidnapped kid (let's call him Steven) is screwed up. Steven died at 24 of injuries from a motorcycle accident and his brother was the sicko who killed 4 people in Yellowstone a few years back. You should check out some of their other stuff. I particularly like the Spoonguard commercials.

A side effect of the BALCO steroids is that it makes you an asshole to reporters (Sammy included).
Perhaps I missed the very early Bonds, but I don't know what the hell you're talking about as far as mellowed. He seems to be as large an asshole in interviews as anyone I've ever seen.
The only time he came close to acting close to human is when his dad was dying. He finally got humble - but that lasted like a day.

And using your kids "please pitch to my daddy" crap - was pathetic.
