A Boy Meets Boy cast member who was booted during the first episode has been dismissed from the Navy. Michael Jason Tiner, who was known as Jason on the show, "a gay combat systems instructor for the Navy, was discharged from the military for violating the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy," Southern Voice reports. Tiner said he "was fully aware of what would happen. I was ready for it." He was recognized by superiors on a commercial for the Bravo show, but independently told his superiors "and received an honorable discharge," the paper reports. He says he reason he "did the show is that I felt if anyone had a right to go on the show, then I did. I should have all the rights that the other 14 guys have. I was comfortable enough with who I am and with my sexuality that I was ready to face the consequences."

2. Amazing Race

On their Early Show appearance Friday, The Amazing Race 4 winners Reichen Lehmkuhl and Chip Arndt appeared without their wedding bands, fueling rumors that the two are no longer together. "Rumors in the gay press were based on our discussion of stresses in our relationship," Reichen told the Orlando Sentinel's Hal Boedeker. "What put stress on the relationship was we had to keep the secret [about the show's outcome]. As it stands, we love each other. We're committed to make sure the other person is happy," he says. One of them is historical, one is international, and I think they probably do one every year or so to add new authors/stories. Use the Lawtalkers link to Amazon to buy them though!

If she started out a prole, and now has money, her friends may see her as uppidity (I thought the term was uppity, but I yield to your more extensive prole experience). If she started out as a non-prole, married a prole, and is entertaining his prole friends then she might be seen as pretentious and he might be seen as uppidity.

Re: "uppity," I always thought this was partly racial and not just class-oriented. Perhaps uppidity is a cleansed version of uppity.

Things I don't do include block parties, potluck dinners, etc... Call me a snob, but having grown up amongst the patch, I just can't dig the communal neighborhood thing.* I prefer the neighbors to generally leave me alone. The last thing I need at the end of the day is some dimwit chick strolling her kids near me to strike up a conversation about some banal topic. Leave me to read me paper and enjoy my Amstel in peace thank you, and I'll do the same for you. Now, should we randomly start talking and develop a friendship, great, but lets not force things. People should realize that at the end of a work day, one's primary goal is "alone time," unless, of course, I'm entertraining for business purposes.

As to the procreation thing, I think some rather repulsive cat name Ronald Fisher developed a thesis years ago which stated that statistically, through history, the lower classes tended to repoduce more than the upper classes. Obviously, this is a generalization with many exceptions, but from what I see amopng middle through upper class folks, it appears the less dough you have the bigger the family you have. My guess is because the less educated you tend to be the more you might believe nonsense like the Catholic Church's barring of birth control. Once you go to school, you pretty much wash organized religion down the drain like the societal dandruff it is... Catholicism is the chief reason Catholics have been down for so long. I'll bet you if I threw rice into a crowd of blue collar folks with more kids than they can afford, I'd hit 80% Catholics. Itss really rather sad to see so many people with no independence of thought. So yes, its a Catholic thing.

* Luckily, my immigrant forebears rigidly taught us the value of education and "not behaving like the shanty Irish." My grandfather always said the fools stayed in the mines and factories and got their union cards... the smart saved and went into business. I shudder to think what kind of dim mick I might have been had my forebears been as stupid as a lot of the other poor Catholic immigrants.
