IT problems: continued
OK, so I found a list of public proxy servers. Am I correct that I simply need to put in one of the addresses into the proxy server setting, and that's it?
I'd like to go this route as I'd like to be able to post (i.e. no anomynizer). Inquiring minds want to know... |

Delete the PMs from your out box too. You might just make sure you uncheck the copy option, and it won't put a copy in your out box, and you therefore won't need to worry about it. |

Try the following (they are all numerically equivalent to the lawtalkers IP address): http://3453378234 (this is the dotted-decimal address 205.214.94.186 converted into one long binary number 11001101110101100101111010111010, which, in turn, is converted into a 10-digit decimal number) http://0xcd.0xd6.0x5e.0xba (this is the IP address where each of the component decimal numbers in the dotted-decimal address is converted into hex: 205 = 0xcd, 214 = 0xd6, etc.) Depending on the sophistication of your censorware, such addresses may or may not be blocked. NOTE: These addresses don't work with every web browser, however. They appear to work on Netscape 7.0 and Mozilla 1.3, but not Internet Explorer 6.0 (older versions of IE may work, however). Regarding public proxies -- they may or may not work depending on how your network is configured. You can try entering in the address/port# of some proxy server you found (in the proxy config menu of your browser) and see whether it works or not. If it doesn't, it might be, for example, that your network admin has configured the firm's firewall/router/gateway to block traffic to/from certain ports. If you can, befriend the IT folks at your firm to get more info if nothing seems to work. (I befriended several early on and was offered a tour of the firm's telephone closet and its server room, even. At times, I also got a heads up re: layoff info -- since the GPs have to tell the IT people to restrict access). |

Hey, I think I'm one of those Cutters (the short, defensive one), but I know what you mean. I was just playing. And if I knew anything about horseracing, I'd read Seabiscuit, but knowing me, I'll just wait until the movie comes out on HBO or something..... Flinty |
