I read this and thought, gosh, we all agree she is mostly correct. Except I'm curious whether the imitation leather is made out of petroleum products, which would mean that dtb's friend probably won't wear it. Perhaps she's not really a vegan.

Durmstrang... Uh, maybe I've been reading too much Harry Potter -- I've been through the whole series myself once, and now I'm on Round 2 -- reading aloud to the eldest dtb-offspring. They are good fun those books -- and actually improve on subsequent readings. I've heard there are (and have seen references on amazon.com to) scholarly books written about the Harry Potter "canon".

Cat's are lactose intolerant. Sure they will drink milk because it apparently tastes good to them but it often leads to soft stools and other digestion problems. Any decent vet will tell you not to give milk to a cat -- that is why they sell the fake stuff in the catfood aisle (and, of course, to make money). Kinda like dogs and chocolate -- if my dog finds a piece of chocolate he is in heaven, apparently it can actually send him there. Funny thing about cats and humans, they are the only two animals that will hunt for fun when there is no necessity.

Huh -- I did not know that (Dana Carvey doing Johnny Carson voice, for those of you playing this in your head...). They do seem to "lap it up" though (isn't that where that phrase comes from, anyway?)

Besides, my dog loves cheese. But then again, she loves everything. The only food she won't eat is lemons/limes (OK, that's two). She actually wrinkles up her nose and makes a face of disgust when she smells one. (She's a princess, after all; one cannot expect princesses to eat RAW LEMONS!)

Does your ex-friend live in a straw bale house? Because most building products, whether in new or old construction, are totally bad for the environment. Compressed board, vinyl siding/flooring/windows, PVC piping, asbestos shingles, lead paint ... how can she sleep at night?

Yes, most imitation leather is petroleum based, but there are places that sell "vegan" leather items that is made of natural fibers but still looks like the fake leather shoes at Walmart. They are, however, earth friendly. I can't imagine her wearing anything else, she's the one who told me about the Nalgene bottles - so I can't imagine she'd wear petroleum based fake leather.

Vegans here in Stumptown, aka the PRP (People's Republic of Portland) also wear lots of Converse, and Tevas (though the no-petroleum product friend might have a problem with those).

I have a pair of hemp overalls (wore them a lot while I was pregnant). They are very comfy, and I like the weight and drape of the fabric. However, they have not worn all that great, and I've had to make lots of repairs, mostly along seams, and reinforce heavy wear areas with cotton. Hmm--maybe that explains why the place I bought them doesn't seem to be in business any more? All their stuff was natural fibers--organic cotton (no pesticides, Sidd!), hemp, linen.

Pre-season hockey starts next Thursday. Let the living begin. Now my boring little life becomes conflicted -- hockey, football, playoff baseball, fall races at Atlanta and Talladega....

Oh, and just because a person is having vaginal sex does not mean that it is missionary. Husband has more than adequate length and girth -- perhaps I will talk him into posing for the next Breasticle Day. I do not believe that an aversion to having things put into my ass makes me boring.
