I knew a guy who was a boxing ref. He loved it.
But I think I'd probably get fired the first time I said "no fucking way" to a call. And I'd probably be a little harsh with the Terrell Owens. He'd never have a reception with me calling the game.
Out of bounds, offensive pass interference, fumble, sharpie on the field.

A friend of mine took a basketball reffing class as one of his PE credits in college, and after that he ended up on the rotation for local junior high and high school games. He said it was a lot of fun, and the good refs also get scouted from time to time. Most refs are just parents or enthusiasts of the game, and none of them in pro football are full time refs. They all hold day jobs.

He still does Celtics games for their network. Now he can be an unabashed fan. It's fun to hear him say Walter McCarty's name.

Holy shit

I have been busting my ass all week. I am falling asleep and this board is not acting as an entertaining distraction. not to be a monday morning quarterback, but maybe its time to eat some carbs and put your humor on or talk reality shows. there are many great ones on right now.

Brittney's people are suing about an article that said she watched porn. Does anybody care?

Quote:

Reps for the belly-baring star are livid over an article in the U.K. tab News of the World that claims Spears checked into the trendy Sanderson hotel in London under the alias Jade Moet and rented “Sex Truck” and “Double-D Housewife.”
I have not seen Double-D housewife, but I did see something called Real Housewives - it was borderline amateur video - in a hotel once.

In other more frightening news, Star Jones takes stripping lessons. I hope no one is eating lunch right now.

Quote:

Star Jones mentioned to her fans at “The View” that she and some friends went to a stripping party. “They took lessons on pole dancing and they learned how to do a booty shake,” according to a source, who says that the party and lessons were at a place called the Penthouse Executive Club in Manhattan. The insider says that Jones was joined by fifteen friends, including Janice Combs, P. Diddy’s mother, who also took the lessons. “Star was really quite good. She threw herself into it, but she said she felt she needed to work on her ankle action to perfect her swiveling movement.

"The new guitar guy is just not qualified to hold Garcia's extra picks. And what is with the freak over there in the poncho. If you are lucky enough to get acid as good as what I know he took 3 hours ago, you should not be wasting the buzz just sitting in a field staring at your hands. He should be up dancing for God sakes."

The Rockets' color guy is Calvin Murphy, and he still holds the record for highest free throw percentage in a single season (95.8%). He was close to losing that record back in 1994, when Denver's Abdul-Rauf was shooting around 96%. Towards the end of a late April game against the Nuggets, Murphy, in the middle of a time out, asked the ref if he could have the ball for a second before the game resumed. He came back on TV and claimed he had put a hex on the ball, and lo and behold, Abudl-Rauf missed his next two free throws. Abdul-Rauf ended the season with 95.6% free throw shooting.

A very close family friend is a Big Ten/Arena football ref. He says it's nearly impossible to get into the NFL. I've heard that it's very hard to get into the Big Ten, so he would know.

And he's not a lawyer. He's a veternarian.

At best that would qualify as Skinemax, soft-core. But yeah, pretty hypocritcal of her "people" to get all up in arms about watching a stupid movie with your girlfriends and then let her writhe around essentially naked on the floor.

It appears I have hit upon something. Refs love their jobs. At least the ones we know. Hmm. Maybe that's why a bunch of attorneys are doing it on the side. Love/hate.

I think this probably goes back to the whole "it's only work if someone makes you do it" concept. These guys are doing it for fun, not their livelihoods or their careers. Sure, some of them have been doing it for 20 years, but then I've been gardening for as long as I've had yards to work in and I don't see myself stopping at any point in the future. It's relaxing (to me) and I enjoy it, though I'm never going to make money at it and it can be back breaking, skin tearing, nails destroying labor. If it were my job, I probably wouldn't like it as much.

German Pastry Chef Gregor Pfaff uses his hand to smear the finishing touches on a gigantic chocolate heart at a hotel in Bangkok. It weighs approximately 2,028 pounds and stands 16.4 feet high.

I know what he makes for the arena games: $500 per game. Plus all expenses. That's it. But he loves it (and his wife has beaucoup dolores, so he doesn't do the the vet thing that much anymore).
