That picture doesn't really do him justice. At the show on Sunday, he looked like the love child of Derek Smalls and Ben Stiller (a much taller Ben Stiller, but still). The finale, a ten minute version of the soon-to-be-timeless-classic "Love on the rocks (with no ice)", featured Justin Hawkins being carried around on a roadie's shoulders, playing guitar all through the house. Brilliant.

A baby giraffe has been named in honour of the lead singer of glam rockers The Darkness.
Staff at the Suffolk Wildlife Park near Lowestoft, the home town of the Darkness, decided to honour Justin Hawkins's wild image.

The Darkness, who are currently touring the US, have welcomed the news.

Justin Hawkins said: "It's a great honour to have a baby giraffe named after me and it's a wonderful that the Wildlife Park has stuck its neck out."

He added: "In a way, we The Darkness, are all newborn calves taking our first stumbling steps into the celebrity world and I am delighted that the people and animals of East Anglia are all right behind us.

Not much to say. Barry Manilow made dumb comments, but his coaching and arranging work with the singers was apparent. All the women did good (on their own scales) tonight. I was really disappointed in George, because he's one of my favorites (and my definite favorite on the Elton John night two weeks ago), but tonight's performance was really overwrought.

Favorite of the night: Jennifer Hudson, by a mile. She sang the first verse completely straight, and had me in goosebumps for the whole thing. Now *that*'s emotional intensity. Fantasia did a great job, too, and *almost* got the ending right--just two too many yeahs at the end. I missed most of Latoya because we had an Amber Alert.

Bottom three should be Diana DeGarmo, John Stevens and Jasmine Trias (as it should have been for a few weeks now), with John Stevens leaving (though I may have to shoot myself before listening to Diana DeGarmo one more time). Judging from the way voting has gone in past competitions, though, they might put George in the bottom three because he's had a couple of off (for him) nights. Cf. Tamyra Gray going home before the original pink-haired chick, Nikki McKibbin, when Nikki did better than usual, and Tamyra did worse than usual (though Tamyra's performance was still better than Nikki's).

It's too bad you missed most of LaToya because I thought she had by far the performance of the night. The OM, who missed Fantasia last week, thought she gave the performance of the series. (I mention his opinion only because he was a trained singer and I only know what I like.)

Her performance was so great -- so polished, so controlled -- that we (hi Paigow!) started arguing about the whether she is a worthy successor to Whitney. The answer of course is no: I still think she can fill the void Whitney left when she lost her damn mind, but the OM thinks there is no way you can find someone who can match Whitney at her best with the "Whitney Houston" album and the Star Spangled banner performance.

Our dvr enabled discussion aside, the final four should be Jennifer, Fantasia, LaToya, and George because they are by far the class of the competition.

I don't know that America is ready for that, though. (hi Coltrane!)

John Stevens will remain so I can contemplate how dead my soul has become every week after listening to him "sing." Diana makes me want to kill myself, but I cannot quite figure out why. Jasmine is such a nonentity with her inability to hit the right note from the start that she inspires violence. Still, she'll remain. Diana or George are gone.

If Jennifer continues to step up her performances every week, I think she wins, though I cannot stand to watch her perform. Fantasia has too much personality for widespread support. LaToya does not seem to inspire the same kind of passion because it seems too effortless for her.

The problem with LaToya is that she is just boring. Her interviews are boring and her singing, while technically perfect, is boring. Her hair is boring, her clothes are boring, she makes me sleepy. If AI really were a singing contest, she should win, but I want someone to win who I enjoy watching (as well as listening) perform.

That's why I voted for Crazy Eyes and George. And honestly, I only voted for George b/c Paigow guilted me into it. I thought he sucked last night. I can't explain why Crazy Eyes is growing on me so much, but I think it's because she was so openly pissed on the night she almost was sent home -- it was kind of refreshing to see someone act like "fuck America, you people have no taste so I'm going to sing my damn songs the way I like to sing and screw all y'all." Also, her favorite movie is "Sister Act 2." It's like she's borderline "special". I just love it, I don't know why.

This show looks like its dangerously close to becoming unwatchable. A show where the singers are the screechy Diana, the lame and gimicky Jasmine, the boring La Toya, and the arrogant and macy grayesqye fantasia may not be something I will tune in for. Jennifer was great last night in an overall disappointing show. I thought I dug Barry Manilow but I didnt know most of these songs, and given the way most of the birds sang em, didnt much care. It was like female Clay Aiken night. Gag. John Stevens started off strong on his song but got weaker. I fear for him and hope he doesnt go since ihe is one of the only non overwrought performers.

bottom three should be diana , george and john though Latoya might end up in there in lieu of George or possibly John bc the other two black chicks aer much more compelling than her and Jasmine has all of Hawaii voting for her.

I really hope its Diana gone bc I cannto stomach her (anyone notice she looks like a puertorican Renee Zellweger?)I think its gonna be John Stevens who got the kiss of death of having Simon say who he reminded him of, unless he gets the compensating votes for being bottom three last week.
