See, that's what I thought the movie translated beautifully, albeit very differently. The theme was in fact about autonomous thought vs. central command, and they illustrated the issue by reference to the same historical moment that was Heinlin's essential reference: WWII and post WWII, and the political ideological issues and conflicts apparent in the subsequent rises of fascism and communism. To the extent the movie subverts the book's take on it (i.e.: the book toys with the idea that fascism might be both a logical result of and actually the best environment for a flourishing and successful individualism, while the movie, with it's marvelous US propaganda jokes, makes the point "the great 'individualists' who famously defeated the fascists and communists are in fact no different from the fascists - and maybe not the communists, either"), I think it does it quite validly (and necessarily) for a different generation with different political histories watching a different medium with its own different history.

For a 14(?) year old, he shows some serious promise. I especially like the part at the end where he says "amen," then crosses himself. That and the part where he talks bout his dad being gay, and fronting about Yen b/c he's never been to Japan. He might want to work on his look a bit, though. Not a lot of street cred.

Sept. 12 — David Letterman had better start thinking up a top 10 list of baby names — he’s about to become a father. While taping the “Late Show” episode that’s scheduled to air Friday night, Letterman told the audience Thursday that his girlfriend, Regina Lasko, is about six months’ pregnant.
“I HAVE AN announcement to make and I’ll be honest with you, I’m a little bit nervous. I have some trepidations about this. I feel a little silly because it’s one of those things where I thought never in my life this would happen,” the talk show host said.
“And here I am, 56, and by all rights it shouldn’t be happening. But, there’s nothing we can do about it now. And I’m terribly excited about this. I’m scared silly about this. I’m going to be a father.”
After the cheers and applause from the studio audience subsided, Letterman joked about the upside of becoming a father for the first time at his age: “By the time the child has trouble in life, you know, I’ll be dead. I’ll be long gone. By the time the kid’s out stealing cars, you know, Dad will be dead a few years.”
Letterman said he and Lasko are still discussing whether to get married.

Apparently the police took a lesson from our courts. This will require some closer study of the film... Let's set up a vcr in the back room and have a look.

Well how do you explain to the police..."well, I was watching this porno....and I recognized that as my church confessional....and I think a crime was committed at my church...but you know, watching the porno wasn't the crime, but well maybe it is, but I've seen that confessional before, and I'm not going back until it's been ridden of that nastiness...that I was watching....over and over and over. Just to make sure that it was my church.

Did the guy who recognized the movie confess his sin of watching the movie in the same confessional? Maybe Atticus can help me here, but does that mean that all of the sacraments peformed in that church are invalidated?
