Here was my response to that:

I wouldn't consider a man that is attracted to or solicits sixteen year olds is a paedophile or a pederaist. I think it is normal for men of any age to be attracted to sixteen year olds. In most states it is not even a crime to have sex with a sixteen year old. It also very common (and was extremely common in our history) for men of all ages to mary sixteen year olds.

Should forty you old men solicit sixteen year olds, no. Should you cheat on your taxes. No. But many men are tempted to. That is just a cold hard fact. A homosexual that tries to have sex with a sixteen year old, is in the wrong. But are they acting on impulses or desires that are abnormal or deviant? Absolutely not.

Hugh Hefner is eighty and has a twenty year old girlfriend. Is that wrong, probably. But there are a lot of men that are jealous of him.

Many sixteen year olds, expecially women, are physically women. That are completely developed. Mentally they may be immature but physically they are all grown up. And to deny that there isn't a physical element to sexual attraction is just ridiculous.

His conduct was wrong because he was in a power position over the boy and for other reasons. But to say that the average homosexual is not physicallyl attracted to some sixteen year old boys is pure B.S. It is just a denial of reality.

I think you should have this discussion with the parents of the kids who come over to your house to play.

Depending on what "abnormal" and "deviant" mean (obviously they are synonymous with "wrong" but I'm not sure what shadings of meaning Spanky gives them), I think it may be both of those for a 40 y-o to solicit sex from a 16 y-o.

Not if they are meant in a scientific/statistical way, though, because on that I don't know -- don't have the data.

Ha. My $0.02: I see Spanky's point, however, I think he's avoiding recognizing that small subset of men who consistently date older women (for whatever reason). I'm just glad they exist because I like them (part of it is it makes me feel young -- probably one of the reasons some men like younger women) and aside from a brief phase when I was really young when I experimented with older guys, I am not attracted to them at all. Different strokes. But I do agree that youth is highly prized and sought after.

Speaking of post-pubescents

I'm going to a Quinceanera this weekend. I've never met the kid, but her mother was a good friend/coworker until she moved away about a year ago. I think mom is sort of using this as a way to reconnect with old friends, and since I like her a lot, I have no objection to going to her kid's coming of age celebration to catch up. However, I don't have really a way of interrogating mom to find out what the girl wants/needs/is allowed to receive. It's been awhile since I've been 15, and I don't really know that many 15 year old girls.

Any ideas what to get a 15 year old girl for a major birthday?

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION! Spanky is talking about how people feel on the inside- society can define those feelings as good or bad, however, that is not his point. Why is 18 a magic number? It isn't, and Spanky asks if crossing it might well be malum prohibitum, and not malum per se.

I think it is not normal (average -- normal as the antonym of "abnormal" and "deviant") for a 40 y-o to solicit a 16 y-o for sex. I can believe it is normal for a 40 y-o to look at an attractive 16 y-o and have sexual thoughts.

Soliciting is action, not internal feelings.

It's not a date. It's watching Deer eat. A Nature walk or viewing or whatever. And if her body is pretty mature already because of all the hormones in the milk she's been drinking, well, then I'm sure her mom will be sympathetic to hearing that while it might be wrong to have solicited her for sex, it's not abnormal or deviant.
