I think that people in love are better able to focus on their partner's attractive features while minimizing their shortcomings (the more cynical would call this deluding themselves).
I think you can notice the flaws in your partner and cut them slack. That's different than not seeing the flaws. I think this goes for looks AND personality.
Men might be better at judging a woman's appearance and still determining that she's worth pursuing for other qualities besides looks, but they're still making the critique.
As I have no choice but to submit to this discussion, I had a friend in college who had a theory about Asian women. (I went to a school with a large Asian population.) He thought that all asian women were a 7 (on a scale from 1 to 10). He thought that the average Asian woman was prettier than the average white woman, but that there were hardly any Asian women who rated a 10 in his book.
Granted, he was an alcoholic, so his judgment is suspect, but there's a high rate of alcoholism in the profession, so perhaps that is why the lawyers are "flirting" with ppnyc.
