Why? There's two, separate intertwined issues here. First, he was arrested for disorderly conduct. Doesn't really matter whether it was gay or straight, although it happens that pick-ups in the men's room tend to be gay. If the cops had reports of sex going on behind the ticket counter, and investigated, and sebby was rolling there with the gate agent, why shouldn't he be arrested. It's sex in a public place.*

Second, there's the problem of a staunch gay-right opponent turning out to be gay. We've been over that ground before, but hte issue is the same.


*To be fair, there seems to be a decent argument that sticking your hand under a toilet, even if it's a sign for "wanna fuck", falls short of disorderly conduct sufficient to warrant an arrest. If sebby went up to an undercover cop and said "wanna fuck?" would that be disorderly?

I don't understand why the police in the Minneapolis airport are arresting people for what he did. It doesn't strike me as a crime, and you would think they could find something better to do.

It is totally bizarre. I don't see a crime either. If he was looking to nail him for solicitation, he didn't even get close to the evidence needed. If homosexuality (Sodomy) is still a crime in this state, he still didn't even get close to establishing any sort of sodomy occurred or a solicitation for sodomy (if such a crime exists). .

Yes. The worst consquence for our failure in Iraq for US national security would be an Al Queda base in Iraq (or in a Sunni piece of Iraq).

Apparently there had been complaints about sexual activity in the bathrooms in question. I have no clue where the line is on where you can arrest someone. This seems stupid, considering what construction workers (or whatever) do w/r/t lewd gestures. I guess that doesn't actually ever result in sexual activity, though.


ETA from yahoo (or AP or Reuters): "Craig, 62, has faced rumors about his sexuality since the 1980s, but allegations that he had engaged in gay sex have never been substantiated. Craig has denied the assertions, which he calls ridiculous."

It doesn't seem like there are any allegations that airport security or the city police or whatever were trying to frame him/targeting him, so I am kind of intrigued. But, whatever. I don't think that voting against gay marriage is a sign that one is virulently anti-gay.

Based on your second sentence, you don't seem to be responding to the question I was asking, which was going to whether the bigger problem for us in Iraq -- now, not in a hypothetical future -- is Al Qaeda or sectarian violence. Since Al Qaeda's aim in Iraq is to stir sectarian violence through high-profile attacks, the answer is pretty obvious. The fundamental problems right now are that there is no law and order or functioning government, and that the Sunnis, Shias and Kurds are trying to kill each other. Al Qaeda is making this worse.

I've answered all this, other than to say i am surprised you think it okay for cops to arrest people for proposing sexual congress between consenting adults.
