If you like history, this is one of the best books I've ever read:

It's beautifully written, relies heavily on primary documents, and gave me tremendous insight into what an incredible person Elizabeth was.
Clive Owen has been cast to play Sir Walter Raleigh opposite Cate Blanchett's reprisal of the role of Elizabeth.

And while I am on my way there, I will need something to read. Any suggestions? I'm not interested in any non-fiction that has anything to do with any events after 1980. With respect to fiction, my taste is pretty eclectic, though I am not usually a fan of stuff that is too high-fallutin. In other words, no Umberto Eco, Toni Morrison, Thomas Pynchon, or Mickey Spillane.
I am currently reading A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby (who wrote High Fidelity) and am liking it quite a bit.

I recently read The Good Life by Jay McInnerney and loved loved loved it.

I also read recently Lunar Park by Bret Easton Ellis. It was his most fucked up book yet (and that's saying something after Glamorama).

I also read Middlesex, which was recommended by Sidd. I found it very difficult to get into, but enjoyed it once I did.

You don't really understand what self-weaning means, do you?

Sorry, but unless they didn't like the biting, it sounds less like self-weaning than...weaning.

But so, either way, did you continue pumping after the weaning so they continued to get your milk?

She seems to think caustic means dominant, so that's entirely possible.

I finished this recently and it made me pissed off that I'm not a wealthy, retired investment banker with heart of gold. Good read, though I thought the ending was a little flat.

I'd tell you if I thought for a moment you knew what Circular 230 actually was. But I don't. Just like I'm pretty sure you still don't get my Blue Meanie reference.

I think I did until my boobs sort of dried up a little....they both liked milk early, the ped. recommends not prior to a year, but we did start organic milk a little on early side. so we did do both past 7 months.

From glancing at the Amazon reviews, it looks like Weir's book focuses more on the personal/romantic life of Elizabeth. Is that accurate? Part of what I really like about Jenkins's book was that I really got a feel for the great personal sacrifice Elizabeth made to be queen. Kind of like she was a modern-day spinster GA.

Have you read Glamorama? It makes American Psycho look like a fairy tale.
