Why do people do this.

A colleague came up to me at work today and he said (in a normal tone of voice,)" Guess what I did last night Leagl?" of course I asked what. He says (normal tone) "On tv I watched" (now really really quiet) "The L Word." (normal tone) "I enjoyed it it was quite good."

I mean wtf?

The same reason people come up to me and say "I watched American Gigolo last night"

Or "Shakes the Clown"

He hasn't yet come to grips with being so cool. He needs some time to accept it. Maybe it is because he is talking about the love that dare not speak its name - he thinks it whispers its name.

My grandfather used to do the same thing (whisper words like "divorced", "cheating" - stuff like that). I think he did it so the children couldn't hear what he was talking about. Of course, when he whispered it *to* the children, it kind of defeated the purpose. Also, when he went very deaf, he just yelled it out like he yelled everything out.

She's happy. The owner's happy someone is seeing it. I am happy to see how the other half live and wistfully gaze out of the floor-to-ceiling two story windows.

Sigh.
