She Got the Memo

That wasn't the question.

That wasn't the question, either.

Absent war, under either president, there was no way to stop NK from getting the weapons, but that being the case, I would rather they get them without our support than with it.

Do you think Clinton somehow supported NK's efforts to get weapons? We promised them (non-weapons related) help, but we never delivered.
My point above was that you were saying ignorant things about Clinton's AQ policy, and that when I challenged you on it, you started to say ignorant things about NK instead. It's not hard to get the facts straight on this stuff, but you have to try. Both you and Hank are driving me nuts today because you're saying things that have no basis in reality, and then changing the subject when someone points this out. Why this bothers me more today than usual, I don't know.
Maybe Condi never saw the memo. If so, you'd think she'd want to find out how it could be that the senior counterterrorism official in the U.S. government could tell the National Security Advisor that it's urgent that the government focus on the problem, and the NSA never got the message. That sort of ineptitude would be highly, highly troubling, don't you think?
But no one really believes this. What's clear is that Clarke was asking for attention, and that the incoming administration decided that they were going to do things different from the Clinton folks, and that meant focusing on things like missile defense instead. Clark and counterterrorism were put on the back burner, and stayed there until September 11.
Now, try to tell a convincing, alternative story about the same period of time that is (a) based on some real facts, and (b) doesn't have anything to do with North Korea or what Clinton may have done.
