Say what??? I've spent a bit of time with Texas evangelical Christians but none of them went down in flames and bullets after a stand-off with BATF. If they were so close, there would have been huge support for them in the evangelical community -- and there wasn't. As discussed in other posts about documentaries and the news, what you see isn't always the truth.

I guess you don't watch Graham Norton. Apparently he is on the wane in the UK, but he's quite refreshing late night fare.

(1) Why is this about CNN's profits instead of the compromises that always come with the business? Why isn't it fair to say that CNN stayed in Iraq, in less-than-ideal circumstances, so that you would have some sense of what was going on there?

(2) When CNN reports that a "senior administration official" says x, y or z, they know who it is, and they don't tell you. Sometimes this is important. That's the way it is.

(3) If the responsible thing to do was to stay there and report the unpleasantness the regime didn't want reported, where was the competition? I didn't see those stories on PBS/ABC/MSNBC/Fox.

The media had a choice in how they chose to describe the Branch Davidians. Church or Cult? Community or Compound? Members or Followers? I don't believe what the Branch Davidians believed, but they were far from the only people in Texas that (1) interpreted the Bible literally, (2) were particularly interested in eschatology, the study of the "End Times," (3) had a healthy distrust of the federal government, and (4) owned guns.

Maybe evangelical Christians in Texas thought the Davidians were a cult. Maybe that belief rests on inflamatory news coverage and reports that Koresh considered himself a "prophet." The documentary posits that what we saw in the news about Waco wasn't always the truth. So we're all in agreement on that point. I don't take the documentary, or the Bible, or Bob Dylan songs, as literal truth either.

Alright, I'll go first... Thank you Fox for finally having a raving crazy MAN on a reality tv show! What an ass.

I could never be the woman on that show because I would not be able to take any man seriously who wore one of those icky masks. Ok, there are many other reasons why I wouldn't be one of the women on these shows...

That motivational speaker dude is creepy. I'd like to see him win, except that then he'll think that all that subliminal bullshit really works. What an ass.

Ok, did anybody remember that this was on? After all of the promotion, I turned it on at about 9:00 PM. I'm assuming here that it didn't start at 9, from the point I started watching. It seemed to me to move pretty slowly, though I haven't watched so many of these types of "reality" programs that I'm not sure whether they don't drag out all the introductory episodes. A few observations.

1. It seems every one of the motivational speaker types on these programs are total manipulative pricks and bullshit artists. (Think Rich on Survivor I). Unfortunately, whomever they seem to be working their mojo on at the time seems to always fall for this crap. I'm giving this dude the inside line.

2. Angry mascot guy was hilarious. He's obviously not used to negative feedback when he's wearing a fake head. He got waaaay too angry about the whole astrologer thing. So you don't believe in it? It's not worth getting that angry about. I'm thinking that had to be scripted. Who gets that mad about something that stupid? Maybe I'll see if I can book angry mascot guy for my kid's next birthday party.

3. How long do you think unemployed guy is going to last? While I'm sympathetic to unemployed guy, the fact that he thinks that somehow meeting a woman on this show is be the thing to change all of the things that are not going the way he wants them to in his life is laughable. If he lasts until the end, he will be gone so fast his head will swim.

4. Any thoughts on Hayley? Is she the type that's going to run away screaming if the dude is ugly, or will she be able to look past the looks as long as he has something else going on, like a good career.

5. Monica -- Meh. So what? She adds nothing to this show. Has no discernible personality and has the annoying habit of repeatedly referring to the guys as Hayley's 'suitors', probably the most annoying word possible in this context.

6. The gift ceremony (or whatever it was called) was pretty funny to watch, especially frog dude, and the bad poetry.

As an aside, since I missed the early part of the show, how is the rest of this going to work, now that they have cut the field in half? Does one guy a week get jettisoned? Are a certain number up to be cut in any given week? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm not sure there is enough here to keep me interested. Thoughts?

Angry mascot guy was the raving crazy one. I don't think that you missed anything if you turned it on at 9 (it was a 1 hour show). They don't explain how many will be axed each week, but my guess is that it will follow the Bachelor/Joe $$ format.

I'm not sure if I'll watch or not. The masks really creep me out. I was thinking Phantom of the Opera but then salon.com reminded me of the Eyes Wide Shut gala, so now I'm going with that.
