Didn't the Pope say that sex is only for procreation? Wouldn't that make nonprocreative sex a no-no, at least for Catholics?

But the "love thy neighbor as thyself" rule makes handjobs practically mandatory.

Hell - call the Pope a "stupid old fucker" while you're at it - because he won't tell you contrary to Santorum.

Nope, also a sin (see "Onanism"). Monty Python put the Church's position on sex to song in "The Meaning of Life."

Every sperm is sacred/every sperm is great/when a sperm is wasted/God gets quite irate.

Seriously, the ability of Catholics to selectively ignore Church teachings and doctrine to fit their own thoughts is amazing. Liberals focus on the anti-death penalty, anti-war, and anti-capitalist economic and social justice teachings. They ignore the no contraceptives (let's not even mention abortion), no divorce, no fertility treatments, no gay sex, no unmarried sex stuff. Conservatives do the exact opposite, of course. Their "Choose Life" bumper stickers are not refering to the "central message of their faith" as applied to capital punishment or euthanasia.

Probably can apply that to any of the Big monotheisitic 3.

Why I don't consider myself a member of any religion, save perhaps the "Church of the Repeal of the Corporate Dividend Tax"

Ok, if only to let me boast for a minute.

I recently returned from a place where I took strenuous yoga classes for at least 3 hours a day from a Buddist monk (who was incredibly hot, btw). And now (if sufficiently warmed up) I can put my legs behind my head.

Woo hoo!!

I have finally started watching this.
Usually I watch this with the fish-stick, but since she is away from home, Mrs. Fish stayed up and we watched - a few comments:

Josh - fucking terrible - definitely bottom 3 tonight. When he sings country, he is a passable country singer. As I have said before, most of the country vocalists I've heard would have problems in another genre. Mrs. Fish's comment: "He must have had to jump off the edge of the bed to get into his pants."

Carmen - still the worst performance of the night, even as bad as Josh was. She looks like she's been awaiting the hangman the last few shows. I think now that the rest of the lesser singers are gone, with the exception of Josh, she's got to go. Pleeeeease. She's GOT to go. I'm thinking the sandman will be coming with the hook tonight because if you noticed, the definitely had the most tepid audience reaction last night.

Trenyce - decent job. I have to agree not in the same class as Ruben and Clay, but okay. She should hang on. Might be in the bottom three, if Kim L. isn't. Tough call.

Kim L. - She has gotten better over the last few shows. I think she started off a little shaky, but finished strong. I think her performance was better than T's last night and the judges are lining up behind her, and I'm guessing the voters will be influenced by that. Will probably stay out of the bottom three b/c of it.

Clay - he sounded great and was somewhat less disturbing to look at. I thought this was the best performance of the night. I don't particularly like all of the ballad stuff he does, but he has a great voice. By the way, I think he must read the boards, because his "Thank you's" were audible. Barely audible, but audible. I agree with Simon -- he'll make a great living in musical theater.

Ruben - The judges fawned over him because he (finally) showed off his upper register. Call me crazy, but I wasn't all that impressed with his upper register, but because some of you on the board said he was sick, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Ruben at less than 100% is better than all of the others with the exception of Clay.

Randy Jackson must read the boards, too. After I called pussy-boy out on these boards last week, he finally looked like he pulled the gloves off with regard to a couple of the performances, and didn't let Simon do his dirty work for him. He's off the hook, for now, but I'll be watching him closely.

I do actually. But I find that "do unto others" pretty much covers everything anyway (except perhaps when it comes to one's enemies).

This isn't isolated to Catholics, nor Christianity as a whole. In all the majors, people are picking and choosing what they will and will not do like its some $9.99 Vegas buffet.

Look at the Shi'ites right now bleeding all over themselves on this pilgrimage in Iraq and calling for the death of the Sunnis. Not true followers of Islam, they say.

Or the Hasidim on 47th Street who look askance at the non-Orthodox and not properly following the law.

Or the Santorums and Falwells of the world - who serve to inflame 1/3 of the country with their unnecessary and usually inappropriate "holier than thou" rhetoric.

Or the Episcopalian, who totally ignore parts of the text to be more inclusive, suggesting nobility and community is more important than mere words.

But to call one group stupid and not the other is somewhat absurd. They're all fooling themselves into believing "their way" is better than the other. If your gonna bash them, bash them all equally.
