Why am I going to bang my head against this particular wall? I don't know, but here goes. Even though so many others have done so before me.

Listen. No one cares what size you wear or what you look like. No one made it an issue. Except you. And no one is continuing to make it an issue. Except you. (And TM now too, since you pissed him off, and he's exacting revenge.)

I don't care what size you wear. I don't care if you are pretty or ugly. Whether you are pretty or ugly or slim or fat has nothing to do with whether I am pretty or ugly or slim or fat. They are unrelated.

I did not put myself out there for TM to evaluate for the board. You did. You didn't like what he had to say. Fine. We get it. You disagree with him.

But as we've all told you time and again, beauty is a subjective thing. TM did not find you attractive. Fine. Rather than trying to disprove his subjective findings, why don't you just accept them? Okay, so TM didn't find you attractive...big whoop.

What's happened here, however, is that you've become so focused on proving him wrong (by calling him too harsh, calling him a meanie, suggesting he's a liar, calling him unattractive, etc) that you've become a laughingstock. Not because you are unattractive or heavy, but because you are so self-absorbed and insecure that you actually care whether we think you are attractive and thin.

In the intro Neyo voices over:

In an effort to make PPNYC a useful contributor to the board, I am going to use this post as a jumping off point for a discussion that may prove to be interesting.

Ignoring the stupidity and bad grammar rampant in this post, does anyone think that "being a member of the bar" is something that requires us to somehow show kind of special compassion and dignity in our ordinary life? I can see that if you're in court you should act like a grownup, but outside of when I'm actually at work and working on work stuff, the fact that I'm a member of the bar doesn't impact my behavior. In fact, if I stopped practicing law (hi ltl/fb!!) I don't think that I would be able to display any less dignity in my personal life than I do now.

I don't think he made the first conclusion you cite. I think he was trying to just compare having a wife to getting hookers for sex, but didn't have the guts to write it like the blunt locker room conversation in which it usually comes up. He chickenshitted into a stupid discussion of market forces.

This seems to be a trend. A lot of writers these days posture their observations as ruminations on the effect of market forces. This allows the reader to avoid the consideration of the real issue, which is that people do rotten shit for selish reasons all the time. I'm a fan of the market, but I hate this "the market made me do it" crap.

And the simplistic versions that so often are out there are really just stains on the whole law & economics type stuff. I mean, really. I took a class on the economics of family, and Becker's book (I think it was Becker) was much more subtle than this assjack's article. Economics does not mean cash. Markets do not mean just money. Stupidasses. Poopieheads.
