Jeff Galloway is famous in the running community for his advice that runners take walking breaks during their runs. Using his strategy (usually one minute of walking per five minutes of running), many people have completed distances (especially marathons) longer than they would have otherwise been able to if they had tried to run the entire way. More competitive runners look down on Galloway: they believe that running should be reserved for those who can run the entire way, and they get frustrated that non-athletic types are joining their sport. They often complain about “gallowalkers” getting in their way during races, but the competitive runners are usually way ahead of the gallowalkers. This term was coined because it’s a short, convenient, catchy way to refer to this phenomenon that is easy to understand – most runners know who Jeff Galloway is, and everybody knows what walking is.

ETA: and I'm also Gallowalking, as I train for it. But considering I've never run futher than two miles before I started this, I'm ok with my peon status in the running world.

Horrible is a bit of an overstatement. Yeah, they've dumbed it down, especially the most recent changes, and it's got way too much fluff. But I still think it's a worthwhile read, especially any time Kenny Moore or Don Kardong write something. And sometimes there are pics of pretty hot female runners.
