A draft of a best man speech? You can't tell your buddy the substance of the speech beforehand. That's like seeing the bride in the dress before the wedding. You kill the surprise, which is part of the fun of the best man speech.

Letting the wife hear it beforehand is OK, but if she didn't like it, her obligation was to tell you, not have you demoted.

And your buddy needs to relocate his balls. The bride doesn't get to veto the best man unless he's a real mess, which I'm assuming you're not.

I gave a speech at a rehearsal dinner a few years back. I had to narrate a slide show as part of it. Up comes a picture of my friend as a child sitting on the lap of a John Wayne Gacyish clown. The entire room is silent. I looked down at the script, which said "[Friend] loved clowns." I just sipped deep on my drink, grinned and said through the mic "This is a setup, right? You don't really expect me to read this, do you? I can't really touch this one... it works on so many levels." Half the room gave me shit for not having the guts to say "And here's [Friend] losing his virginity" while the other half (old people) asked me what I meant. The bride's mother realized what she'd done and sheepishly snickered afterward, "Sorry, that was an awkward picture... I forgot [Friend] has a twisted sense of humor."
