Yep, though that's really not always true (had the pleasure of attending some a ways back with a friend in need). But a funny point about certain immutabilities in personalities - another friend of mine who's been sober/straight 15 years was telling me how he loves when the Al-Anon people have a meeting nearby or after his now-occasional AA meetings, because they always clean up everyone's mess. He was only sort of joking.

My brother-in-law was straight for 12 years before he died of liver cancer. He'd always been obsessive about music, even when he was using. After going straight, though, he became even more so. He couldn't buy one Nirvana disc. He had to buy the entire catalog, surf the web for downloads and bootlegs, and catalog it meticulously.
His other big replacement addiction was hot food. This was a guy whose idea of a snack was a plate of pickled habaneros. He had an Indian restaurant he went to all the time because the cook/owner would make him a vindaloo so hot the cook had to wear a mask to avoid breathing in the fumes.
