Sighting

This morning at the gym I saw the meat in the sandwich that Coltrane posted yesterday. Or, possibly, her twin.

She was wearing too much clothing to be certain. But man-oh-man. Oh man oh man. I nearly broke my jaw on the elliptical thingy.

Yeah, but it's sort of jaunty.

You should still have your penske face oun four this. The "have" could be an extra affirmative, or something. Past perfect? I mean, we say things like "I've received the letter" or "I've fucked that guy, I think, a few months ago."

Maybe all those are wrong, but I'm remembering "have" as a helping verb as well as a "real" verb indicating possession.

I really enjoy it when he does his walking up the wall or on top of people's heads and doing all his things while he's being chased (and of course, the spectacular flying elbows) but the commercials kind of look like more of the same. Is anything added in this movie other than that helicopter scene (which looks really cool -- how much of that scene is real?). I dragged my bf to Ong-bak, which he actually really enjoyed and want to take him to this as well but it would be good if I could tell him that it's actually better than Ong-bak.
Of course it's better than Ong-Bak, it has elephants in it. Missing elephants.

Indeed.
  • Perfect aspect
The auxiliary verb have is used with a past participle to form the perfect aspect; for example, the sentence "Peter has fallen in love" differs from "Peter fell in love" in that the former implies some connection to the present — likely that Peter is still in love — while the latter does not.

I forgot to add, I think I love you. Too few women really, really like movies like this (though, thankfully, Mrs. Finch is one of them.)
Aw, thank you. What's not to like about these movies?!

Interestingly, when I saw Ong-Bak, there were a lot of women there in the movie theater (not sure if they were just dragged by their boyfriends or what), but no one appeared to complain.

In your Englishasasecondlanguage class they should have told you that you use have got for possessions and have for actions.

I have got a beautiful house.
You have breakfast with fringey.

Maybe this is the prole in me speaking here but "I've got" sounds to me on par with "youse guys" which makes my skin absolutely crawl.

2. but the outdoor seating restaurant I wanted to go to closed its outside seating, so i had to sit- got a table by the window BUT that's smoking so its taking a chance. And yes someone with a cigar ends up at the next table.

Sorry F., had fish. A restaurant should not serve fish within 50 feet of where they let people smoke cigars.

It is the falsely classy in you. That makes people say things like "between you and I."

Actually, I think "have got" is not favored, but it is past perfect and nfh's use of it indicates that she got reggie bush sometime in the past, and continues to have [in the non-helping verb way] him.

my mother in law explained it to me regarding the Pa. license plates "you've got a friend in Pa."

Perhaps you would like to take this up with Mrs. Kravitz?

I actually do not use foppish phrases like that. too clunky IRL.

Correct. He's all I've got. Because Travis Henry has turf toe. It's the same falsely classy thing as using "myself" instead of "me" in a sentance. I hate that.

I have helpfully included a link to Hank's ESL class.
