My sense was that "have got" is more acceptable in British English vs. American. And then I did find at least one person who sort of implies the same:

4b) *I want to have got Mary to cater the party.
5a) I have finished the work.
5b) *I have got finished the work.

So, in conclusion, I'm afraid that you're campaign to eradicate the expression "to have got" is probably doomed. You are going against centuries of English grammar and usage.

The NCAA prohibits student-athletes and their families from receiving extra benefits from agents or their representatives. Any improper benefits could lead to NCAA sanctions against USC and retroactively cost Bush his college eligibility and Heisman Trophy.

Any sanctions against USC would not break my heart. I'm still wounded by the whole Billy Joe Hobert scandal. Dumb fuck.

I lose feeling to certain of my fingers all the time. I have all my life. They just turn completely white (whiter?) and are dead until they get warm enough/circulation returns. This was a much more severe problem when I lived in northern climes. I actually went to a rheumatologist (or however you spell that) at some point for some unrelated problem and found out that there is a name for my losing circulation thing AND that it is one of the indicators for that horrible skin-hardening disease (skleraderma?) that Jason Alexander's sister has. Luckily only one of several indicators, and I don't have the others really. So anyway, live and learn. I'm not sure how this relates to you or to planting trees or to boxing, but maybe it isn't all about you, gwnc. Have you ever considered that? Me neither.

AND tying threads together... One of the things that would almost certainly lead to the loss of circulation in my fingers was cleaning lettuce for salads when I worked at Friendly's (hi rp! hi dtb!). See, I usually lost circulation from having cold hands and having my hands immersed in very cold water for several minutes at a time would frequently trigger the problem. As would not wearing gloves during the winter. So I am in sunny LA (not particularly sunny today) for medical reasons. I'm like the old ladies who move to Phoenix.

It (gwnc's) sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome, or some form of it. I had it years ago from sports, and every so often it comes back. But I gave up pummeling weanies in bars and on the beach years ago, and the problem has subsided.

How is this supposed to affect him and the Saints? I don't see it. Are you just saying because he might be worried or something? I'd think he is more mentally tough than that.

When will these guys learn? If you're going to take money from agents before you complete your eligibility, you have to limit yourself to one agent. If you take money from more than one, you know the guy you don't ultimately sign with is going to rat you out to the NCAA.

It's a distraction. Guys that age are easily distracted. It's what kept Billy Joe Hobert from really reaching his potential. Well, that and the death threats from alumni.
