Of course, you never know if you have that unknown heart condition until it (a) kills you or (b) you have it discovered because you've done something else to fuck up your heart. And coke is precisely the sort of thing that produces those funky arrhythmias that (a) kill you or (b) if you're lucky enough, fuck up your heart so that you catch the arrhythmia and don't die. This time.

"Federal law prohibits disclosing the identity of a covert agent, triggering an investigation into the leak. Such a disclosure is a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $50,000 fine."

Why isn't Novak subject to this penalty?

While we were all on Amelia Island for a wedding, an acquaintance from high school left to go buy some crack. I think it was safe to say everyone was shocked.

I don't think I've ever been in the same room with crack.

It's a First Amendment issue. Technically, Novak didn't disclose the agent's identity; he merely reported information disclosed to him. The more interesting issue for me is whether or not Novak can be charged with misprision of a felony for not revealing his source, or if the First Amendment extends protection to him for not revealing a source even when he knows the source has endangered the life of another in the commission of a felony.

So, if one of my many CIA buddies discloses that X person is a covert agent, and I put it in my blog, I have not committed a felony but have only done the misprision of a felony? Cool.

The only reason it's gotten the "horribly addictive" rap is that the price of entry is so low. You can go back in an hour with eight more bucks and get buzzed again, whereas a gram of the real stuff takes much more, and so is sort of self-limiting.

I'm sure they say this each time (best line up since the first one), but the one I went to back in the day was clearly better. From memory, there was Green Day, George Clinton, Bikini Kill, Shonen Knife, Smashing Pumpkins and the Beastie Boys, and that's only the ones I was sober enough to remember. The only two that even approach that level are PJ Harvey and Sonic Youth.

I knew a person who had been addicted to coke but got off it before law school. Em is quite successful now. Probably one of the most successful grads from my year, come to think of it.

I didn't know anyone who did crack in college. I do remember people snorting vivarin(sp) when they couldn't get anything else. I recall thinking that was very lame.
