Being that I am a semi-professional plaintiff's lawyer, that doesn't bother me none.

Your alternative, you realize is brought to you by the lovely makers of Vioxx, Celebrex and Fosamax.

Right. But for the rest of us?

But, really, I get the no-flu-shot position, especially if your kid has (severe) allergies, asthma, etc., notwithstanding what a shill says about them either way.

Healthy kid, in school or a group-care setting? We get them every year. Not sure about H1N1, mostly for the novelty concern (which, necessarily, means a lack of testing, especially on kids).

Why not get two or three flu shots?

What, because one is *less* concerned about profit than the other?

Believing either without reservation or inquiry is fraught with peril.

(1) the H1N1 flu shot(s) and/or (2) the seasonal flu shot

I called Vietbabe's doctor and the nurse in charge babbled incoherently on the simple question, seeming to hint that the doc will "probably" go and advise to get the H1N1 shot b/c the CDC says so, but that in fact, the seasonal flu shot is probably the more important one. But...again, she was rambling and I couldn't get a straight answer on what the doctor was actually suggesting (I have a call in to the doctor).

I was set to get Vietbabe -- now seven -- both flu shots (seasonal and H1N1) but then I read reports from Canada yesterday that getting the seasonal increases risk of getting the H1N1 virus even if one has the H1N1 shot. Today, there was a bit of backtrack on that report, so I went back to the original dual plan. But then a friend told me she doesn't ever participate in the first round of a "new vaccine" b/c maybe "all the kinks" haven't been worked out.

So now, I'm perplexed over the whole thing. Vietbabe is healthy but tends to run absurdly high fevers when she is sick (like 106). Back in 2002, I was on this board freaking out about her first spiking episode and you were all so nice to calm me.

Thanks.

Perhaps your quandary can be eased by the fact that the H1N1 vaccine won't be available until around February and even then, there will be very limited availability.

Everything I've seen pegs first availability as mid-October, with about 3.4 million doses of FluMist available.

She sells well shaken water as a cure to all that ails you. Her margins have to be ten times even a blockbuster for BigPharma. That's before you factor in FDA approval and research, neither of which apply to the well shaken water business.

Now, have you tied up any Zicam cases?

Each year the flu shot is different. In other words, the novelty concern is a bit artificial.

Because there is no increased efficacy through multiple exposures.

Same reason I don't drink Dr. Moneypenny's well shaken water to cure my flu - it doesn't work.

Are we surprised?

Re: General discussion - Mom and Dad Esq.

Thanks for the input, all. And for the laughs -- well shaken water sold by Dr. Moneypenny. I think I'm going to have Vietbabe get both - apparently mid October is when the schools are going to be given a big stash and they'll be demanding we all bring our kids there to drink the Kool Aid. I forget which of the shots (regular flu or H1N1) requires 2 shots at different times, but that means a total of 3 shots for Viet Babe. Probably at 3 different appointments. Will suck. Too bad I can't get her drunk first.
