The default rule is if your grandparents were citizens of Italy when your parent was born (here) you can get I-tie citizenship. And my mom remembers helping my G-ma (came here in 1928 after the anti Italian immigrant law) study for the citizenship exam, so yes!

But the fucking law does not care about grandmothers. Your grandfather must still have been an Italian citizen when parent born. And he came here in 1922 to make $$$ so he could send for gma. And the law was still friendly to Italians. He basically stepped off the boat and renounced his Italian citizenship to become American (sad face). Mommy born in 1935 to an American father.

I think I read that they are now allowing it to flow through a grandmother, but you have to file your claim in an Italian court instead of doing it the typical way.

My attorney friend who is doing it went with Portugal, which I think is the cheapest in the Schengen region.

When I looked, Australia was around 700k US in any area but Sydney but they may have shut that angle down.

ETA Also looks like 500k Euros investment unless you buy a wreck.

Plus, since Less has full EU citizenship I’m suspicious of his motives to get us to invest bongo bucks for some lesser status.

Based upon what Coltrane said about the I-tie law changing I'm checking with an Italian attorney to see if I can get it done.

My grandparents were born US and Argentina one of each on both sides so I can't see how I could get this done. Great grandparents came from Italy.

As I understand, if one of my mom’s ‘rents were Itie citizens when she was born here, then she could get citizenship. It would then cascade to me, and from me to my kids. I don’t see a reason (other than proof) why it couldn’t go upstream one more generation. I’ll report once I know more.

None of my ancestors are getting me EU citizenship, as far as I can tell. My closest shot looks like a great-grandfather who came from Germany in the 1880s, but that's not close at all.

If any of the rest of you have German ancestors, you might find this site interesting. We have no idea where my great-grandfather grew up, but this site gives a hint.

Re: Implanting Bill Gates's Micro-chips In Brains For Over 20 Years!

I think maybe I could get Mexico through paternal grandmother. I don't know if she even bothered to get her US citizenship. My grandfather was an honorary consul to Spain for some reason, though his actual connection was from an ancestor who got to Texas in the 1750s.

On mom's side, Italian through her mother, but that was her great-grandfather who came over. Her grandmother was DAR, so that's not helpful. Polish/Russian (unclear where border was at the time) through her father who WAS first generation American, but there aren't many/any records. He was the type that pretty much renounced his ethnicity and never referred to himself as other than American, despite the very Polish last name.

I found a law firm that will get me it for $10k. So if my mom was an Italian citizen I’d just gave to go to the consulate. But I will need to file in an Italian court. The law still focuses on grandfather- but this firm has convinced courts this is sexist discrimination.

Icky it does not seem to matter you will have to jump another generation than me. When I speak to the firm I’ll ask. Once you get it your wife merely needs to go to the consulate. Adult kids need to go through court but the firm gives a discount for multi client matters like that.

Any of you all come to Calabria look me up!

Isn’t the difficult part locating/gathering the necessary documents? I’d have to go to Pennsylvania to find out if/when my great grandfather was naturalized, and also obtain all birth certificates for the entire line.

To be fair, Adder proposes a China-level enforcement of the mandates. The article says mandates don't work because people do not really comply. In China if you don't comply you'll be jailed. For that matter, in his true dream the mandate would be "you do not come out of your apartment." That mandate would "work."

Oddly, that does not look like the kind of fully vetted analysis and argument places like the CDC ought to rely on, and instead reads like "I've managed to find a couple docs speaking in an individual capacity who will confirm the theme of my article". It's particularly notable given that it's real easy to find people who disagree on the issue but none of them are quoted or cited.

Mask mandates have become a political hot potato, so we probably aren't going to see more except in a few isolated places. But can we not rely on this kind of facile op-ed for our medical decisions? Long term, we need a public health system that relies on rigorous analysis and substantive support for positions. Otherwise, we're going to really screw up the next time around, like we did this time.

Shitty day at work. And then found out all the maskless back-to the office types were spreading around the Covid at work, lovely. Why wear a mask when you're sick already? Yes and they are trying to convince a jury that a mom and pop company should have warned guys that when working on their widget 100 years after it was made, mom and pop should have warned em to wear a mask.

Then unsolicited contact from another outfit which would be good, but the backgrounds, ahem, I do not think would fit with mine.

Oh and then a string of Kansas and Styx tunes came on the iphone while listening on the train. Then the 90 degree weather made my evening run a fucking nightmare where I thought I was going to die. Bur in reading reddit.com/r/nycrunning it seams everyone was puking their guts up with this shite yesterday.

Leonhardt is a dipshit laughingstock, honestly.

Explain how this: " Masks reduce the spread of the Covid virus by preventing virus particles from traveling from one person’s nose or mouth into the air and infecting another person. Laboratory studies have repeatedly demonstrated the effect" fits with this:
"Anybody who wants to wear a snug, high-quality mask can do so and will be less likely to contract Covid."

In his defense, he's not as much of a dipshit as "Horse Meds" Carlson, even if he's doing his best to be in the running.

But the research for this one clearly involved little more than smoking a joint and jacking himself off.

The thesis is belied by the obvious observation that people stopped masking when the mandates went away. A more defensible thesis is that mask compliance matters more than a mandate.

Yes, the real problem is people like Adder who were hoping to save lives, not the people who couldn't be bothered to go along with it and infected other people and themselves.

The self-pitying, fatuous, myopic selfishness of people who complain about wearing masks -- surely that has been about the most tiresome feature of the pandemic, marginally more tiresome than the people who "wear" them but leave their nose hanging out to share their bodily fluids.

My wife works in a hospital where people wear masks every fucking day and don't complain about it -- amazingly, that's possible.

How dare you complain about complaining, that kind of cancel culture approach to outright stupidity is why CRT is causing the mentally ill and school doors to engage in mass shootings.

I don’t agree with the logic of the article. I don’t see how masks can be effective but mandates not. That strikes me as one of those contrarian “ahah!s” that doesn’t withstand scrutiny.

As to Adder or anti-maskers being the problem, this binary framing ignores the majority of viewpoints. Most people were on a continuum in between the dimwits who think China had the right idea and “it’s just a flu… so fuck your masks… Freedom!”
