A sad day in the music world

They were always the same - 2 hours of kids from Colby, Colgate, Cornell, etc.. dancing around and grooving on harmless, dull "Dead light." It was tolerable if you'd bogarted a few joints and sucked down enough whiskey, and there were bevies of cute blondes bobbing about for eye candy purposes. As to the music, I have no idea what was played, but I never attended expecting to hear anything good anyway. I'd usually leave early and tailgate, listening to somebody's bootlegs in the parking lot while firing back the last few lukewarm beers from the coooler.

Nothing is worse than the Samples live. Although they do attract naive bobbing blondies...

I hate those commercials. But it is my own fault I listen to them, as I have not worked out this whole satellite radio thing yet. Damn you, ClearChannel!

What the fuck happened at Belmont on Saturday? Everyone, and I mean everyone was saying that Smarty Jones was a lock to win, and take the Triple Crown. All the jockeys and trainers and owners had conceeded the race, saying they were all running for second. I didn't even put any money on the race, because really, what was the point?

So what the hell happened? And Birdstone, at 36 to 1? I need a cocktail, just thinking about it...

Belmont was too long for SJ, apparently. I can't kid myself that I would have ever known enough to bet Birdstone, so it doesn't bother me that much. What does bother me is the guy I know who put $100 on the Pistons at 5-1. Fucker.

So who wants to start up the death pool for this marriage? No rebound here - getting married only 5 months after the end of the Bennifer debacle.

Apparently, the odds were so much in Smarty Jones's favor that if you put a bet on every single horse running, you'd come out even or ahead if anyone but Smarty Jones won.

I won a dollar.

We saw "The Prisoner of Azkaban" this weekend. In my view it's the best of the three HP films. It's not really a kids movie, either. While it's not as violent as the LOTR movies, there's some stuff that will scare the shit out of little kids. Great film all around.

I took my almost-six-year-old boy and nine of his friends to see it. None of them admitted to being scared, but I suspect one kid was a little scared during the first dementor scene.

I liked it very much; the way they condensed the book (which is full of detail and explanation) was fantastic, and the time-turning sequence was excellent.

The Dementors scared the hell out of me, so I can imagine a 6-year old would be freaked out.

Another highlight: Emma Thompson. She had me laughing out loud.

You're full of shit. You know it was your boy, Chauncey.

And let me just say that watching the finals in HD is great. Can't get over it. Every sporting event should be in HD. The Belmont looked damn good as well.

(I wonder when the Greenland National Kayaking Championship will be televised in HD.)

Great! We have a birthday sleepover coming up. Maybe if we scare the crap out of all of them, they'll stay in their sleeping bags all night.

("You can get up and play after I go to bed, I suppose, but you should know that we have . . . you know . . . dementors in the basement . . . ")
