I think there is a reason this complaint only really comes up in married/living together situations. It is an "it's 3 am, I have to piss and I am half asleep and stumbling around, stubbed my toe on the table and if I turn the lights on I squint and can't see anyway, and having to check seat position before I sit down is really, really too much to ask in the cirucumstances" problem. In normal situations, who wouldn't check? But in the half-asleep 3 am situation, I don't think wanting to be able to stagger through your own home to your own toilet and just plop yourself down in relative safety is unreasonable.

Doesn't work the other way (leaving the seat up for the guys, though they could then fall in, too, if it wasn't a whizz they are after). They have to take a good look at the toilet first anyway to be able to aim. (And if they think they don't, they need to never live with a woman.)

I assure you, when a guy has to take a dump, he looks down to make sure everything's in its proper place before he sits. Now, if its a given that women are more detail oriented and neat than men - which they are - then why the hell are they so negligent in this one very important detail area?

I may forget to pay the cable bill or clean the cat litter, but you can bet your ass I'm going to be making sure wherever I stick my bare ass is pretty damn safe and clean.

Reminds me of a vacation I took with a gay friend of mine. We were sharing a room (platonically, of course) and I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of running water. Look up and he is standing in the corner of our room peeing on the wall. He apparently sleepwalked over there. I had to wake him up and tell him to stop peeing there.

Thankfully we were in Mexico with tile floors instead of carpeting. But still. Yuck.

I know someone who thinks that women feel special/treasured when he kisses their hands. Most are squicked out/nauseated.

I live in a part of the country where half the guys will insist that I leave the elevator before they do, and the other half get off as soon as the door opens. I never know what kind of guy any given person will be, though age sometimes is an indicator, accent too if I'm lucky enough to hear him speak. If someone gets out of the elevator for me, if someone opens a door for me, if someone walks me to my car, I smile graciously and accept the guesture. If not, I smile graciously and move on on my own. In short, I do a lot of smiling, and I have no expectations.

Well, she knows at least one. I think consideration for basic etiquette and societal conventions for conveying respect to others is a key sign of healthy social adjustment.

BR(and the opening of car doors can be a deal breaker if he owns an SUV or a truck, 'cause I'm real short and can't get in and out of some of those fuckers without assistance)C

Not a direct reply to your post, but I think there are some specific instances where it's okay, and not insulting to her, to walk a woman to her car or home. For example, recently in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area of Chicago, a serial rapist/assaulter has been attacking women late at night/early in the morning. Regardless of how strong/tough the woman is, the attacker has the element of surprise. A companion, male or female, will drastically reduce the probability of being attacked, correct? Thus I* try to make sure a taxi takes any solo (girl)friend straight to her door, or that someone, male or female, walks with her.

*I'm not special. Almost every guy here has recently insisted upon this.

I've been lurking the entire day reading about all the pissing and moaning. Given that I've wasted a whole day with you, I would like the ladies of the Board to answer a question.

Do you feel at all uncomfortable walking up a set of stairs in front of a man if that man intentionally stays two or three stairs behind you so that your ass is at his face level?
