No, this particular person manages to generate a general feeling of squickiness (if not yet invented, I hereby claim the term) that pretty any physical contact unnerves women. The fact that he goes the extra mile with the hand kiss thing (he's known in our circle of friends as the hand kissy guy) makes him that much worse.

I've never had any problem with cheek kissing, unless it's been a question of one cheek or two.

Good God. You equate your examples with "known forms of showing respect?" They are outdated. That's a fact. If I walk through a door and hold it for you until you take it, I am not being disrespectful in 2004. That's the way it is. All the stuff you listed may get you excited, but it's not expected by anyone other than you, Fugee and that old bat who wanted to go ahead of me with 50 grocery items at the supermarket the other day.

People who offend everyone they meet are operating on another level and you bringing them up brings nothing to the conversation.

People who do not conform to your 8 inch thick book of etiquette, but treat people with respect do not offend anyone (besides those of us who can't let go of outdated ideas of what is and isn't the right thing to do). And I'm not losing any sleep about offending those people.

On another birthday, he got me nothing. That's right. Bupkus. Zero. Zilch. However, he did buy HIMSELF a lovely watch -- on MY birthday.

It isn't, though I'd say flowers are nearly mandatory (certainly moreso that for other hospitalized invalids you know, since the husband is, really, somewhat responsible for putting her there). But I admit it for the most part seems nice. And maybe like a good defensive move if she's the sort to grab a man's nuts in the delivery room and bellow "you motherfucker, you did this to me!!!!"

I would feel weird about a rolex. I would not feel weird about, say, an obscenely garish piece of jewelry set with the baby's birthstones, however. Dunno why. It may just be my love of obscenely garish jewelry coming out.

toilet rudeness goes both ways-
In college my girlfriend lived in a house with three other girls. None of them had boyfriends. When I first went there they had a spider plant hanging above the toilet- you know long tendrals hanging down. The tendrals were above the head of the seated, but in my face when standing to pee.

Once things got good she took it down for me- ah love. But I could always tell when she was about to dump my ass, because she'd put the plant back.
