If you are a woman, you can gauge it by the amount and quality of attention you get from men who you don't know personally. If decent looking (as well as ugly) men who you don't know go out of their way to make eye contact with you and try to talk to you at the grocery store over the stupidest things just to get your attention and men are always commenting positively on your looks, you are attractive. If only the bald, fat ones look at you, you are not attractive.

It isn't so easy for men since women tend to be more focused on whether the man appears to be financially well off than on his physical attractiveness.

It's not only the ostrich-osity that makes it expensive. It's the name. The regular leather ones (and I think maybe cattle are even less rare than ostrich -- although I'm just guessing) are $8000 or so. The crocodile ones are around $20,000 (or more.)

You're paying for the brand name, not the materials.

I'm glad they made amends b/c I really think that Hatch is just so clueless that he really thought what he was doing was funny and I doubt he meant to traumatize her. But still. Unacceptable. And more unacceptable to say that it should have been laughed off.

I don't recall saying I thought she should laugh it off. I merely suggested that she might have signed a waiver which would prohibit her from filing suit.

And then other people pointed out that it was against public policy, and I asked what the big deal was.

Cause really, still, I don't see why its such a big deal.

But then Bilmore and Hank pointed out the slippery slope argument and I shut up, because actually, I thought what they said made sense.

But nowhere did I suggest she laugh it off.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Hermes bags are made by hand by one person who places every stitch after punching the skin with an awl. The skins are custom dyed and specified by the customer.

But they're still not very functional (unless you don't need to get into them) and not at all attractive.

I'm more into Furla these days -- clean lines, yummy colors and price tags that are respectable but not outrageous. About ready to throw out all of my Dooneys and Coaches because the logo thing has become so annoying, though.
