I used to pipe my iPod into my home theater/stereo using the standard dock and a headphone plug to RCA adapter. When Apple released the AirPort Express, I just plugged that in instead, so I'm streaming audio directly from iTunes into my stereo and using the iPod only when I'm out of the house. The interface is better in iTunes than on the iPod, for various reasons.
I'm on the verge of about getting another APE and plugging in a set of powered speakers (such as the Creatures discussed on the gadget board). In addition to expanding your home wi-fi network for better coverage, it also seems to be more flexible than an iPod-dedicated set of speakers that will be useless when the next technology rolls around.
Just a thought. I won't hate you or wish you dead if you decide to go with the JBL iPod dock. Strike that --- I won't hate you or wish you dead because you decide to go with the JBL iPod dock. Happy Walter King day!
