That's the whole point!!! Are you saying Annika hasn't spent her whole life perfecting her game? Doesn't she deserve a little limelight? She won 13 freaking tournaments last year - she deserves some publicity. You're acting like this is going to turn the Colonial into some freak-show Adam Sandler movie. She should get the opportunity to win some $$ like the men that she's better than. The only guys going to be complaining are the guys who are getting beaten - you watch.

You're an idiot.

You can't just take distance off the tee and use it to make all sorts of stupid claims. Tiger is 48th off the tee BECAUSE he is so long. He can hit his fucking 2 iron farther than Sorenstam can hit her driver. He often doesn't even use his driver because he doesn't have to. He can go for accuracy off the tee because while others are hitting 4 irons on their second shot from the same distance, he can hit a 6 or 7 iron. Now apply that analysis to most men in relation to Sorenstam and stop acting like you know what you're talking about.

Your point is stupid, which should be obvious to you, but apparently isn't. The top golfers in the world are long hitters. They win the lion's share of tournaments. Yes, some courses are made for shorter hitters and try to put a premium on accuracy. But longer hitters will always have an advantage for reasons I've already stated. Sorenstam may hit the ball longer than some of the guys, but that is because most of them are sacrificing length for accuracy.

Apples and oranges. Men and women. Do you even think when you make the keys go up and down or are you just getting lucky with your posts while cleaning your keyboard? You can't compare men and women in golf much like you can't compare apples and oranges. Jesus. All the reasons you stated are advantages for her she will not get at The Colonial.

And don't bring up Arnie and Jack. I already said I think sponsors exemptions are stupid, so you're not even arguing the right points. Besides, it's different for them because they have won many majors and have earned their keep on the PGA (many tournaments give exemptions to players who have won that specific tournament in the past or who have won a major, so they don't even fall under sponsors exemptions most times you see them anyfuckingway). Until she earns her way on the PGA, she doesn't deserve to play.

I am all for a good cup of tea, yet I must say that if you have ever played 18 holes in Texas in July you would realize exactly how much energy one can expend playing a round of golf.

I would call it a sport, despite that fact that it is a sport that permits consumption of bloody marys and beer during play. Heck that is the best kind of sport!

If it wasn't a sport, this argument about relative muscle and strength of men vs. women and whether a woman should play in a PGA event would be totally irrelevant. It requires strength, skill and coordination.

It also requires a certain degree of endurance, because you also are required to walk the course which generally translates into a few miles, on top of all the other stuff you have to do, which does require that you be at least in decent shape.

Why do you think there was such an outcry about Casey Martin and whether he should be allowed to use a cart or not. It's a sport, period.

However, I differ in your assertion that all sports require an attendant amount of brains. If you need an example, look at Mike Tyson, for chrissakes.

No, I think I said that unclearly. I wasn't implying that she's a freak. What I meant was that these golfers (who happen to be guys) who have worked their entire lives to perfect their game, and now make it into the Bigs, the Show, the . . . whatever, now see a situation where the big story isn't going to be their sweet swing, or their years of anguish and training, but this golfer over there in a bra.

In short, a freakshow. A media blitz for reasons other than the reasons they came - i.e., their mastery of golf.

Did you see the article in Salon about Spike ruining Buffy? I thought it was a pretty accurate analysis. One of my friends opines that in the early years, Joss identified with Xander (he used to flat out say that he pretty much wrote Xander as he was in highschool), and these days Joss identifies more with Spike. I've met Joss a few times, and he's funny as hell, pretty damned bright, and mixes a mean drink. I think he sometimes gets carried away with everything though.

I'm much more prepared to bitchslap Marti Noxon. She took over the Executive Directorship BTVS when they moved over to UPN. I've disliked pretty much every single episode she's ever written. Why he didn't turn over the helm to David Fury, I'll never know. Last season started strong, but utterly turned to dreck by November. This season has had no direction or underlying theme. Yes, she had a baby last summer, but that's no excuse.

FYI, having recently seen Big Frank in a bar, he is anything but fat. In fact, he looks much thinner in person. I would say he is actually at the lower end of body fat range for MLB players...plus he left with 4 (yes FOUR) smoking blondes...

If their big break is the Colonial, they haven't mastered golf. If they seriously thought they were going to get some big press off of the Colonial, they've likely never seen the kind of press coverage that the Colonial gets. Heck, the winner of the Colonial this year will end up getting far more press than he(/she) likely would have any other year BECAUSE Annika is playing it.
