This blurb says that gin is known for loosening tongues and sharpening wits. This reminds me of how people incollege always said that tequila gives you a different buzz than other booze. I have found this to be total horsefeathers. Do different alcohols give you different buzzes?

I'd say yes. My red wine buzz is different than my beer buzz which is different from my gin buzz and all of these are wholely in another universe from any and all contact with taquila. Ultimately, if I'm hammered, the effect is pretty much the same, but getting there is fairly different. Oh, and bad wine gives the worst hangovers, though again, taquila is in a whole separate category, which involves much, much pain and suffering.

I agree. I don't know if it's just association with the types of events at which I am prone to choose certain drinks, but early in the process, champagne makes me very cheerful, social, and confident; red wine gives me a warm, relaxed feeling; vodka does little for me until I'm totally hammered; and tequila makes me want to do reckless things.

While vacationing in Chile, I consumed many (hundreds?) of pisco sours. I tried to make them when I got home (with some duty free pisco from the Santiago airport), but I couldn't duplicate the taste. I didn't include the egg white, which may have been the difference. So, if you want a really good pisco sour, hop on a flight to Buenos Aires or Santiago...

South Americans can freaking party.

They do for me.

I have noticed a markedly different buzz from beer (a mellow laid back sort of thing) versus wine which makes me a little giddy, and hard liquor which on occasion can make me a bit out of control.

I wonder though if my mood to begin with is impacting what I choose to drink, which is really what is impacting my buzz.

Same buzz; different hangovers. It's all the same liquor, just different concentrations. As for the hangover, it's all about impurities, and tequilla has plenty of them, particularly the cheap shit.

I don't know if the buzz is different, but champagne makes my pants fall down for some reason. I don't touch hard liquor, too many bad memories (or lack of memories so maybe it makes my pants fall down too).

Not to prolong this subject, but some 2nd tier guy was trying to play on the LPGA. He decided to right after Annika decided to play the Colonial, so that was some time ago. I cannot remember his name, but I think I posted about it way back on infirmation. I'm not sure how his quest was progressing, but he has apparently since voluntarily dropped it. Not sure why.

I don't know about a different buzz, but rye (I think you call it whisky, but I don't mean Irish whiskey) makes me very aggressive, and not in a good way. Like I start insulting people that are much bigger than I am and get into trouble. So I stay away from it. And I tend to get maudlin-sappy drunk with champagne. I stay away from that as well.
