Hey! This catalog clearly brings the glory of Louis XIV (or the tropics, or an English country house, or the tundra in the case of the Africanish giraffe-sh stuff) to one's beer-nacho-and-crappy-chain-pizza-holding big-TV-in-a-fake-wood-case media room nesting tables. Who are you to begrudge the glories of polyester imitation imperialist castle design to some nice lady whose useless huge-gutted too-small-team-jersey-wearing husband sits in front of football all day like Jabba the Hut? ;)

God, it's keep yourself busy decorating or freak out and flee the country in the middle of the night to get away from your current life...

and 4000 calories and, hopefully soon, banned from the supermarket.

Personally, I don't often go to supermarkets because I cannot stand all the fatty foods people buy around me.

Once they start banning the trans-fats, perhaps I'll go to supermarkets more often.

Like you.
Actually, I would prefer if you weren't nice. That's not my point. I just think it should be pointed out to you when you act like your shit don't stink. I've noticed it more and more lately.

As your co-worker, I have to sometimes work late with you, have meals with you, travel with you, work weekends with you.
Good thing I don't work weekends and my contract states that I cannot be asked to travel.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a meanie -- in fact, I am a damn fun person in the office. I am the joke cracker who hates overly serious moments or people. I just don't consider my co-workers to be my friends in the "who would you call from jail at 2am" sense. I am also in a position where socializing would be somewhat weird because I am one step below the "big fish" in the food chain so social moments with "everyone else" can be awkward sometimes (not from my perspective by any means but I do have to be sure to uphold a certain "dignity" if I were to go out for a couple beers with "the girls"). I dunno, it is hard to 'splain.

I married and gave birth to the only two "friends" I really need -- we go everywhere and do everything (okay, not everything ewwww) together. These are just my feelings and priorities and if that makes me a bad person or anti-social I guess I just don't know that there is anything I can do about it.

I love it when you talk like that. I almost feel like Gomez Addams, kissing up your arm.

Is his tribal tatoo some sort of infringement?

Amazing. From you, yet.

Out of what was supposed to be a semi-humorous rant about the amount of TV some people apparently watch, I get a couple of alternative conclusions:

1. Some people are losing their senses of humor at an alarming rate; or

2. You shouldn't hit people where they live - TV just means too much to them.

Go back to ripping on purses. I need someone else's higher purposes to look up to.

So, if the majority of posters didn't get that you were just trying to be "semi-humorous" then that means that we all have bad senses of humor, not that your post wasn't really funny. Am I interpreting you correctly? I just want to make sure that I resent you for the right snobby-ass reason (as there appear to be so many reasons to choose from)

As it turns out, I do actually socialize (to some extent) with my co-workers (some of them). I went on a multi-day, out-of-state bike trip with one of my co-workers last summer. Being friends with this co-worker makes it not only easier to work with her - I also trust her and know that she has my back around here.
When I used to interview law firm candidates, I judged people on their social skills routinely.

If you have the qualifications to be interviewed, you have the qualifications to work there. What I wanted to know is whether you were a complete ass, or someone with whom I would want to have a drink at the end of the day.

I left that job a few years ago, and I still routinely see my former colleagues socially and refer business to them.

With the crazy hours involved in working at a firm, why would you surround yourself with people you hate?

To be fair, they do have a few individual things that are fine. Some of the bedding is quite nice by itself; it's just that combined with the elaborate headboards, matching wallpaper and curtains, 47 pillows, sconces, botanical prints, etc. etc. etc. it's enough to send one into an epileptic fit.
