Shit. I really must suck then. I use a 3 wood from that distance. Sometimes it goes straight and other times I end up walking into the woods -- or people's yards -- looking for the damn thing. The GPS system on the golf cart doesn't even help.

Perhaps I should ditch my yard-sale clubs and get a fitted set. And take lessons. Many, many lessons.

1. Could anything suck worse than being part of the live audience? I don't think they give those poor people cocktails.

In her defense, she has "stylists" now who do her hair and select her clothing. Her stylist should be fired and then shot so as not to ruin any other careers. And for the record, hitting your nine iron 150 ain't all that impressive. That's what I hit my nine and I couldn't be further from the Tour (PGA or LPGA).

It's unlikely you hit your 9 iron 150.

If you do, however, you're in the top 5% of amateur male golfers for distance. So it is impressive. So either you're wrong about your distance, or you're wrong about it being impressive.

The guys I know who hit a 9 iron 150 absolutely crush it. I hit my 9 140 and I'm longer than 80% of the people I play with (although I still suck)...

I'm not watching, but from the descriptions on the ESPN site, it sounds like she has narrowly missed a bunch of birdies. She hit all 9 fairways off the tee.

Yez. It's my goal to deceive you about my golfing skills. I'm so upset you discovered my master plan.

As I have admitted, I am not a good golfer. I hit my sand wedge 110. I hit my pitching wedge 135. I hit my 9 iron 150. I hit my eight about 160. I hit my seven 170-175. Six = 185. Anything lower than that and I'm too inconsistent to give you a distance. I've played with Chevalier. He'll tell you I hit the ball far, but not very accurate (with any consistency).

I don't know the stats on who hits their irons what distance (pro or amateur). But when I watch golf (and I do quite a bit), I am consistently shocked at what club the players pull for certain distances. Tiger may be a freak, but he hit his 7 iron 210 yards from a fairway bunker over water to a small green with the tournament on the line? What? That's insane.

Maybe it's because coverage focuses on the big hitters (who are always near the top), but I didn't think hitting a nine iron that far was all that impressive. Hell, MR just said he hit his 140 and he's not a good golfer either (or so he says).

As for spookyfish, please tell me where I was being inconsistent. Here are my points again: (1) I think Sorenstam should have qualified if she wants to play with the boys, (2) I think there should be no sponsor's exemptions, (3) I think it will be harder for her to compete because she is hitting lower lofted clubs to the greens, (4) I think you're an ass. All points I've stuck to.
