Criminal investigation, lol. Meanwhile in most cities you could just punch every person you see in the face, get out no bail, punch more people in the face, etc. and never pay a nickel in bail.

Related news: I was at a restaurant Monday that had a whiskey list without prices. I asked for “the oldest Pappy you have.”

Suddenly I was given an elaborate serving glass and set up. Mmm good. Then I got the bill.

Moral: do not order Pappy w/o knowing the price.

Look at it this way, that glass of bourbon probably cost the same as, what, an hour of your time?

I suspect it was worth it.

Haha. True! Then again, Coldplay made about a gazillion dollars making songs about selecting and purchasing patio furniture. So, there’s that ….

So people (GGG elsewhere) are saying the Court has accepted a case that could over rule Griswold. But when I search for it I do not find anything. Help?

I've been in one court room since covid. Everything else has been over the phone or Zoom. I'm guessing billable hours have to be down for litigators because of this?

Billable hours will be the same, but my clients (insurance companies) got a windfall in not have to pay for travel to every bullshit status conference and Custodian of Records deposition.

Pretty sure this Court doesn't need to accept a case. They can just issue a ruling sue sponte.

Did you see this in Justice Kagan's majority decision in an otherwise boring Supreme Court decision (Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc. v. Hewitt) last Wednesday?

Quote:

. . . Helix did not raise that argument in the courts below. Following our usual practice, we therefore decline to address its merits. See, e.g., Kingdomware Technologies, Inc. v. United States, 579 U. S. 162, 173 (2016); see post, at 2 (GORSUCH, J., dissenting) (agreeing that Helix "failed to raise" the argument, and also declining to express a view of its merits); but cf. post, at 4–5 (KAVANAUGH, J., dissenting) (recognizing that the argument may be forfeited, but opining on it anyway).
Ha!

From 50 flights a year to two, and that's fine with me. Doing a Teams conference at 10:00 AM for Buffalo cases from your home office sure as shit beats traveling a day and a half to say "Everything is on schedule, your honor."

But of course one judge insists on in-person conferences because then you HAVE to listen to em talk about emself.

His wife posted on Instagram.

I’m really gutted.

ETA: The obituary said it was a cardiac event while skiing on Saturday, his last fuck you to cancer.

His Instagram for the last two years has been dedicated to his cancer and more importantly, his utter refusal to let it overwhelm him. Almost every post had a #fucancer tag attached. About a year ago, he got cleared to go back on the trails, and he's been biking and doing what he loves ever since. As recently as January, his numbers from the oncologist were doing really well. It was one of my favorite feeds to follow because it was so full of life and someone doing what he clearly loved. And it was beautiful. He took great photos that really captured the natural beauty around him. And many of the pictures were action shots of the various bike trails he was on. It was hard to reconcile his illness with his absolute love of life. He'd posted in January that his numbers at the oncologist's office were doing great, and I (and I assume everyone else) had assumed that he was otherwise healthy.

I'll miss him a lot, even though we never managed to connect in real life. Once, he was going to come down to Houston for a depo, and we'd have drinks. But it got cancelled, and I never had cause to go up to Minnesota

I just heard (thanks Less) and thank you Stina for getting my log-in back.

Just also spoke with my old Wonder-Twin Multo, who was good friends with him during her turn in MN.

Flower and I were certainly very friendly, but not as close like some of us here. Yet we would would invite each-other in town. To show how long this GA thing has gone down, we saw shows in both NYC and SF. Three or 4 by my count.

Godspeed, my friend.

Stick around?

I’ve been trying to think who else does not seem to be on IG or here? Atticus is all I can think of. He is my FB friend so I told him.

I had a matter in Minneapolis a few years back. We were supposed to meet one night but then he had some driving kid to Bball practice cone up.

Well, he is not "just one guy" when it comes to running in the Us. As for the other, my knees already hurt, so I spared myself the running and still achieved the same result, so bonus for me!

Funny story. I had knee pain in 2018. Went to an ortho. He said I’d never run again but elliptical and bike would be fine. I did both. Knee hurt worse.

One day I decided, I was going to run. Five miles in it stopped hurting. 1012 straight days of running nearly 6k miles (with no elliptical and little bike) it’s been great. The only times it hurts is when I sit with my knees higher than my butt.

I had my knee surgically repaired in 1992 and the only time it hurts is when I'm on a chairlift that doesn't have a footrest.
