Dude. You also lost weight since being a Rock Star. And are still a fucking hero to me, Less and Ollie.

When we did that Guessing of the "band" between all of our East Coast and West Coast go-to's was Epic. Less thought you were in Fear, Ollie thought (K- feel free to correct me) you were in Agnostic, I swore the CJs.

I don’t know how to respond to this. He was one of the funniest, warmest, most original - truly sui generis - people I’ve run into here, or anywhere. He could have been a professional comedy writer or stand up, and a damn good one.

I’d no idea he was battling anything.

The absence of his voice is just… it’s hard to find the superlative. There’s no way to count how many times the man caused laughs out loud (some of the best at my own expense).

The only, and extremely limited, silver lining I see in your post is that he died doing something he loved. He’s not a soul who could leave in a hospital bed, riddled with disease. That wouldn’t, couldn’t happen.

Excellent people shouldn’t go so early. The world has far too few. This is simply horrible. All the love in the world to his family.

PLF was a great guy. Hung out with him a few times in MN and at the bar here. Very smart, extremely funny, and just a good person.

I will miss him. But this seems like a pretty good post to remember him by.

FWIW, I am an addict. Saucony codes are the shit.

I have quite a few pairs. 250 miles and I can feel the difference.

Plus, I use the Hank move when I am traveling. This one poor pair, when I went to London and Paris -- the last run there was the worst of my life. They knew they were being left there.

I rotate between 4 pair, 2 at my office where I run from during the week and two at home where I run on the weekend. 2 months in I switch them for each other (cuz 5 days a week vs. 2). Inevitability I start feeling “leg tired” as Coltrane says. I check and yes, it is 4 months since I bought them. So I get 4 new.

And the old ones come with on my next travel and are thrown away. Note, this part is simply OCD as they do make me tired legged.

Do we all get more OCD as we age? Lately I would prefer that the TV volume not be an odd number.

Glad I’m not the only one. 2 at work for lunch runs ( Endorphin pro/speed) plus a commute run pair (usually something light like Kinvara). At home 1 for treadmill runs which are infrequent and short (Asics Gel Kayano). A few various pairs for trail runs at home, depending on weather.

When I get a code, I buy one and keep in my basement. Saucony will sell discontinued ones for like $40. Then 250 miles and retired.

I am late to this too. I got to know PLF a bit better in real life since his diagnosis, and I always thought he was funny and wry and upbeat here but man he was even more so in real life.

He was always going to die standing up. The shit he was doing out in the world, on his bike, on his skis, with his camera, in the wild, all while battling the junk inside him was incredible and inspirational - ordinary humans don't do that. The man was just a bright spot in the world.

Looking at PLF's posts on insta over the last year, knowing he had this fucking weasel inside of him tearing apart his flesh, and yet was smiling that big smile through all the pain and the drugs, it just reminds you of what the human spirit is capable of.

He grabbed every bit of life he could. But bookmark his instagram, and the next time you feel like you've got troubles, just look at his smile. It's going to be making me smile too for a long time.

His Insta was one of the main reasons I'd go over there. I loved his photography so much. His absolutely determination to live life to its fullest and find beauty in his surroundings was writ large in every single photograph. I'd trained the algorithm to show me his pictures first. And he was always one of the first to interact with my pictures. He was absolutely THRILLED when I announced Kanan, and he'd always like pictures of my dogs.

This is a terribly unfair world to take him away so soon. But like Sebby said, I'm glad he went out doing something he absolutely loved.

My son is in law school, doing well, but struggling with blue book citation. I want to say Law profs care and no one else does. Have any of you ever seen a Judge question a citation?

Yes by a downstate judge when I cited an unpublished decision. I kindly reminded him that the Illinois Supreme Court had just amended the rule allowing it.

Watched a funny movie just now; The Pez Outlaw. A guy smuggled gray market Pez from Europe into the U.S. Some rural guy from Michigan. He made millions.

Pez’s high priced lawyers had not registered its trademark with US Customs. Unbelievable. Can you say malpractice?

I used whatever I remember the blue book to be when I graduated. I have had one or two (sic) quotations by federal judges, in the rare circumstances under which I am held hostage in federal court.

NY State has its own citation norms which I couldn't be bothered to learn or use.

No state judge has said anything -- we're still working on product types and disease names.

Some former NY State appellate clerks who worked for us, appeared chuffed when I changed stuff.
