Does "none" take the singular or the plural? I'm not even sure what's right, or why I used "was" not "were."

None are singular. You was right.

Movies v. Films

To the poster who thought that Station Agent was a good one, you are correct.

You might also like Monsieur Ibrahim. That was a fantastic film.

Last night, I watched Facing Windows (English language title), an Italian film. It was one of the year's best. For everyone out there who appreciates a true hottie, the guy who played the boy that got away in Under the Tuscan Sun (a crappy movie) also starred in this film. The only problem is that I don't speak Italian and his face distracted me from the subtitles. Like me, you might have to replay scenes a few times so that you can read the lines between breathless Oh My Goodnesses.

Has anyone seen Motorcycle Diaries yet?

All this grammar talk makes me think that being shot with a bb gun in an SM house might not be all that bad.

Provided no one are wearing lederhosen.

Yeah, it's the grammar talk could really drive a person over the edge today.

(I only did it to poke NFH. She likes it.)

I wondered about that too, but maybe by the time he found his airgun, went downstairs, got past the security check or reception desk or whatever, and found the room with the loudest howler, the dominatrix was off taking a pee-break.

But I'm really just responding to you to ask if your avatar is free tonight.

Do German dominatrices wear lederhosen.
The avatar is out power-shopping to overcome the enormous depression.

German men wear the lederhosen, women wear the beer-wench outfit.

Sorry Sidd, but look at it as a chance to gawk at my avatar again.

Dr. Grammar (yes there is a Dr. Grammar) says either.

According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary of English Usage, "Clearly, none has been both singular and plural since Old English and still is. The notion that it is singular only is a myth of unknown origin that appears to have arisen in the 19th century. If in context it seems like a singular to you, use a singular verb; if it seems like a plural, use a plural verb. Both are acceptable beyond serious criticism"

I will stop now as I hate the grammar discussions. Stop poking me.
For Sidd.

This would be an excellent defense ... except for the fact that you obviously thought fringey was wrong.

Further, I would like to know if Dr. Grammar got his doctorate at the "whatever you think is right" school of self esteem?

(I can't help it. I'm German, and rules are rules.)

They permit you to have both a law degree and self esteem in Canada?

Judging by the lack of caps in the name of the institution, it may not have a lot of self-esteem.

Horseshit. You're a rule breaker and you know it. Accept it. Cling to it.
