July Surprise

CNN is reporting (BREAKING NEWS) that Pakistan has announced the capture of a senior Al-Qaeda official with a $25 million bounty.

What auspicious timing - on the very day Kerry accepts his nomination - within the last 10 days of July...wait, don't I remember something about this? Oh yeah...

Because the French are selling Iran the technology to build its nuclear program. Just like the kickbacks from the food for oil program is the real reason they opposed the invasion of Iraq.

You like sucking at the public teat, huh?
If my taxes are subsidizing it, I might as well get some benefit, right? Actually, the real reason is that parking in SF is cost prohibitive.

Do you think Iran maybe knew it could get away with this, given how thinly stretched US forces -- and US credibility -- are?

Based on the article, the Arrow is not "star wars" technology, but rather an Israeli improvement on the old Patriot system. A Scud is not an ICBM.
You are very literal lately. Star Wars is shorthand.

Not bin Ladin

Besides, the July Surprise is Rummy's resignation

Sure, but that really shouldn't have any bearing on the issue. This is a world problem. Iran has thumbed its nose at world organizations (e.g., the UN). So where is the world? If the world doesn't want unilateral action, it should be prepared to act multilaterally.

Shorthand for what? The Arrow has nothing to do with SDI, and it sounded like you were claiming a technological breakthrough for that program.

The communists had that view, too.

Does public transportation in SF receive a subsidy or do the fares pay for the system?

I don't disagree, I was just asking a related question.

But I suspect one reason no one is willing to confront Iran is that they recognize that they would not be able to count on US military support, and that they could count on popular opposition.

Again, I don't disagree. But I do love when Repubs talk about the importance of the UN.

Serious question -- has the US proposed any multilateral action, or any action by the UN or the Security Council?

As I recall, back in the 80s when Reagan proposed, with broad strokes, that we invest in technology that would protect us from strategic attack, including technology where by 1 missle would shoot down another. The press dubbed this "Star Wars." The Arrow project appears to fall within that category.
