Edited to add that I think they are about 24 years old. Edited again to add that their names are Lane and Kyle Carlson. "Lane" and "Kyle"? Cripes. |

*This apparent non-sequitur is a joke. I confused JO with JB a while back in a discussion of Sabrina. |

Ruben and Clay
How did this go unnoticed for so long on this board?
WITNESS YESTERDAY’S SIMULTANEOUS launch of debut singles by “American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard and runner-up Clay Aiken barely three weeks after the TV talent contest put a confetti-blizzard exclamation point to its second season finale. The newbies weren’t even scared off by a Super Tuesday record blitz that included new discs from Radiohead, Annie Lennox, Steely Dan, Dropkick Murphys, and Luther Vandross. But there is no contest in this first round. Despite what Amazon.com has said about presale numbers that favored Aiken, the critical decision most definitely goes to Studdard, whose double-sided J Records offering of the gospel-powered “Flying Without Wings” and Luther Vandross-cloned “Superstar” easily tops his young rival’s insipid, RCA-financed reading of “This Is the Night,” a power ballad so god-awful that it even sinks the flip-side “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” (Maybe that’s why “Bridge” is being promoted as the single and “Night” as the flip side.)Hot new CD's to buy |
