Degrassi edited Uh, spoilers for Degrassi Jr. High So apparently on Degrassi this year there was a teen pregnancy/abortion plotline that was aired in Canada in January. The N Channel (?) airs Degrassi here in the US, and has opted not to show the episodes that touched on the plotline. The problem: The character goes through the abortion and doesn't think it was a bad idea. Why is it so taboo in this country for a character to have an abortion on a TV show or movie? I can't think of a single "oops" pregnancy on TV that ended in abortion. Usually the mother miscarries before she can get to the clinic if she was contemplating abortion at all. Related New York Times story and Toronto Star story. |
