I have to stop being such an eager-to-please lawyer type. I made one tiny mistake and fell on my fucking sword. She's only a Chairman, not also a CEO.

(I have to admit, I did think Carly Fiorina lost her looks rather dramatically in the past year.)

Here is why I can't stand Armstrong:

"Multiple attempts to interview Armstrong for this article — through his lawyers, his agent and a spokesman — were unsuccessful. His agent, Bill Stapleton, wrote in an e-mail message yesterday that Armstrong would not comment because he was attending a meeting of the President’s Cancer Panel in Minneapolis."

Whenever questions arise about his doping, he wraps himself in the cloak of cancer fighter. In every interview I've seen in the past few years, this has been his approach.

"Lance, additional allegations have been brought against you concerning your use of performance enhancing drugs. Can you address these new concerns?"

"As a cancer survivor, there isn't much I can say, except to tell all those kids out there to keep fighting."

Right. Okay, Lance. He's full of shit.

Man, let's hope you enjoyed that first-of-a-kind Monday Night Football doubleheader on ESPN. Airing those games cost ESPN only $129 million. And that's just for the rights fees. Cameras, techies and announcers are extra: ESPN had about 150 production personnel at each game. Typically, prime-time network programming costs a couple million dollars an hour. This year, ESPN is paying $1.1 billion for the Monday Night Football package, which works out to $65 million per contest and about $20 million per hour. Ten times the normal cost of prime-time programming. Sure hope you liked those games!
Question: Is anyone in this country going to actually be able to watch both games? The first game was well into the second half when I got home (admittedly I had a class to go to that didn't get out until 7:15) and I had to go to bed well before the end of the second game (admittedly I had a 5:30 class to go to this morning).

Hell, the first game started well before the end of business on the West Coast. Seems sort of weird that the monday night game isn't going to be watched by the whole country.

Are you in the time machine again? It's only this week.

I think they did it to give ESPN 17 games, since there's no MNF the last week of the season. (All is quiet on New Year's Day)

Ah... I was asking someone about it this morning and they assured me it was every week. I felt sort of bad about it, because that meant 32 Monday Night games the Texans aren't involved in, not 16.

The thing to get worked up about is the games on the NFL network, that plenty of cable systems don't carry.

Purely so they can have a self-satisfied holier-than-thou smirk. There is absolutely no reason that the early admission program inherently creates barriers to disadvantaged. Rather, it was Harvard's greediness to increase its yield rates by taking loads of students early that creates the problem.

If they wanted, they could take fewer students early, and make sure that there were plenty of spaces left for students who might not want to apply early (or might not be aware or otherwise couldn't get in) and take them during the regular application process.
Maybe I should scroll before posting, but the disadvantage is that many schools with early admission require students to make a binding commitment before they have a chance to compare financial aid offers from several different schools. Unless your family has the means to foot the whole cost (or the combination of your credentials & family poverty virtually guarantee that any school you choose will give you a free ride), you can't afford to take the chance.

For my friend Hotel rooms in sf?

Not sure If I am allowed to post this but this is for one of my friends in San Jose. If interested, please pm me.

Hello All,

I have a small block of rooms that is NOT filling up at the Hilton SF Financial District for the nights of October 12, 13, and 14. If you or anyone you know might be in need of a room in SF anytime during this period, please direct them to me and I’d be more than happy to make their reservation. Room rate is $189, which is outstanding for SF! Hotel located near North Beach/Chinatown and underwent complete renovation earlier this year.

That said, other than the cult of St. Lance, I don't think this is a big deal (the doping), although I know you won't agree, in that in cycling, unlike baseball for comparison, its an even playing field, i.e. they are all doping.

Um, no, I didn't talk about it here. Someone did, and I'm not too happy about that. I realize I walk a fine line sometimes, but I don't think I stepped over it this time.

Edited to note: I see where the confusion is coming from, and yes, I did talk about it initially here. I didn't think it was going to go anywhere and when it did, I shut the hell up. But it is my silliness for saying anything about it in the first place. So maybe we should all just be quiet and move on. It's really only one person that I don't trust.

And sorry for causing confusion.

you need to start acting like a partner. today, right now, go back stab another associate- someone who sees you as a friend would be best.

start only talking to Partners- get shitty to the staff, when you're at the urinal and there are only associates there DO NOT FLUSH, if a partner is there, flush of course.

Get more and more negative, next time they fire someone, offer to pick up his work "because you've been fixing it for the last few years anyway....I can't believe you didn't boot his ass a year ago, he's a useless fuck..." Never one good word about any other associate. Not one.

Within a year the partnership will realize you are someone they need to make the "partner in charge of telling people they're fired"- you'll be recognized for your thick skin-

side benefit? once you're the partner who fires people even senior partners will avoid you- you never know when your time has come, and the only thing they know for sure is the word will come from Coltrane.

Pretty soon it'll be "come in early, stay late and take an 8 hour lunch." good luck!

I was a disadvantage kid, I don't know your rich guy shit. Plus with my grades I sure as shit wasn't assuming anywhere would let me in.

I say to Harvard "You let me in I'll come there." then I apply to SE Idaho State, breaking my promise to Harvard to only apply to Harvard.

I get into Harvard, and commit. 6 months later SEIS offers me a full ride. I take it, tell Harvard sorry. what would prevent me from doing this?

the colleges talk? you mean Harvard would tell every other school that I'm committed so they shouldn't look at my application?

Manchester United are heavy favorites. I think the odds were 33-1 the last time I looked. But miracles can happen.

So I propose the following: I will wager up to three months of board support that Celtic will get a result (as defined below).

What this means is that if Celtic lose, I will pay one month of board support (up to a total of three months) for each person (up to a total of 3) who accepts my wager.

If Celtic draw, you pay. If Celtic win, you pay.

Here is the catch: the game will be carried live tomorrow at 2:30 PM on ESPN2. You have to watch the game. I don't care if you Tivo it or tape it or whatever and watch it later. But in order to collect you will have to demonstrate to me that you watched the game by showing some non-googleable knowledge of the match -- this can be done by either volunteering some piece of information that proves you watched it or answering a question or two that convinces me you saw it.

Any questions? Any takers?

Note: this offer is not open to minors or residents of the Land of Fu.
I would take you up on this as I am pretty confident Celtic will get spanked. But I am still smarting from my only-recently-satisfied World Cup debt. More importantly, I will be unable to catch the game tomorrow.

Part of working in a law firm on *any* level is eating that shit sandwich every single damn day. We all have to do it and we all have financial obligations---what keeps us all sane is having a plan to figure out in the future what you want to do and where you want to be at and not let this J-O-B define who you are. And part of that is biting your tounge and kissing ass if necessary on occasion which sucks but it is what it is my fwend. We all have to cater to the partners and the client and stress and hype out. it is just the way it is but it is a means to an end. It puts food on the table and keeps you off the street. the only wayyy to look at it I've worked in law firms for 10 years. onlyyy way to look at it. hang in there budddy

I'm not sure because I naively made my college decision based on seeing its Christmas concert in 6th grade and deciding I wanted to sing in it when I went to college.

However, I would guess that for a process to be considered binding, either a bunch of money is involved or else the elite schools agree not to admit a student who made an early admission commitment to another school.

The downside is that he can't get as much of his artwork done these days. Upside is the kid just got his first box of crayons, so maybe he'll get a collaborator!
