The Hulk opens this weekend to mostly tepid reviews. We're still going to see it, but I have recalibrated my expectations.

Next weekend is a movie I have been waiting to see: 28 Days Later. The concept sounds like every scifi book the OddMan has read in the past year (killer virus knocks out most of humanity), and EW gave it a great review.

I just want the movie to open and go away. I'm sick of annoying pop-up windows with screaming "hulk" noises when I really could do without such detritus.

There's a world of difference between "health food" and healthy food. "Tofu" is the sound you make spitting your mouth clean after hugging the porcelain god. "Soy" is what you yell when calling pigs. But, whole grains taste better than processed, a few slices of lean grilled meat are just as good as, if not better than, a whole porterhouse, fresh fruit is a wonderful breakfast, and that candybar that sounds soooo good as you type at 2am is just gonna make you crash an hour later.

I'm not saying you should go to bed with a tape playing under your pillow saying "crap is goooood!" over and over - just that you spent a long time training yourself (or being trained) to like certain things, and it ain't hereditory or ingrained or instinctual, and it can be adjusted.

Never did (line finally broke after about forty-five minutes) and probably would have chickened out had I actually gotten it up to the boat. The thing was nearly as long as me, and there's only one hatch, and that thing WASN'T going to get stuffed down amongst my feet while I paddled back, and hanging it over the side wasn't an option (think "other toothy things down there"). I thought I was going to get some fun two-footers. Surprise. (It was out of the same bay/inlet as that marina that has all of the huge tarpon gathered around their dock for tourist feedings. I think that's on Isla.)

I have found that excessive drinking keeps me svelt. The more you drink before dinner, the less you're inclined to eat, if you make it from the bar to the table at all. In that regard, booze also saves you money.

Hubby's friends are always commenting that I must be a cheap date because salads are not that expensive. Hubby agrees but then adds that my bar-tab could choke a horse. He eats a lot (meat included) but doesn't drink much and I drink a lot but don't eat much -- like peas and carrots, baby.

Yep, that marina is on Isla. I still have yet to catch one over 100 lbs...I can't even imagine one the size you're describing...

And yeah, you would have had some "Old Man and the Sea" problems had you lashed it to the side.

I do not have a reserved copy of Harry Potter, and I am assuming that I'll be able to get one somewhere at some point this weekend, though I'm beginning to hear that some chain bookstores are expecting hordes.

Is anyone else planning on reading the book this weekend? Did you reserve a copy? Is Amazon shipping it to you?

Right. Ben & Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream or a couple of high-quality truffles work much better.

As everyone knows, I only partaketh of the hops and barley beverage but I thought that others may want something else this weekend. No doubt I would prepare these for any one of you (okay, with a few exceptions) if ya'll wanted to drop by and float in the pool this weekend. Cheers.

Champagne Peach Punch? If any of you ever see me drinking, ordering, or associating with someone who is drinking, ordering or has ever drank or ordered a Champagne Peach Punch, you can slap me right here. I can think of no place, outside of perhaps a sorority rush event, where it is even legal to consume this drink. I'm O.K. with martinis, but those others look just awful. People, let me spell it out for you:

Is that so hard? Whip up a tasty and refreshing Pisco Sour and I'll happily stop by the pool with a twelve pack of the domestic beer of your choosing and a platter of crudites. In fact, I'm looking forward to it.
